I like the way you have the wheels actually DO something as opposed to just being glued on to look good. Β
i see too many that people say "steampunk" when it really isn't.

Well This Is Very Cool I Am New To The Steam Punk Genre As A Whole But i Am Loving This Already
Question TIIIIIIMMMEE!
1. Is It Easy To Mod Guns Like This Into Steam Punk?
2. Can You Give Me Any Tips For Steam Punk Modding?

ajldesign In reply to Soulravesher [2013-09-09 01:40:52 +0000 UTC]
How easy or difficult it is really depends on what your trying to do. For this gun the light has a separate switch but for other of my guns the light is wired to the trigger so it's a little more complex. My tips would be to look at other peoples work and find styles and ideas that you like, also try to make it look authentic as if it could really work and look around were ever you go. You would be surprised how many everyday things I use in my guns that I used to just throw away. Have fun and thanks for your interest and your comment.

Looking at the original picture, I can see you know what you're doing when it comes to modding.
I am making a steampunk story. It's in the works right now, but when I saw this it just looked like something that would be in it. Thank you for the inspiration.
If you are interested, I have the Idea for the story in my journal.
Β SHAMELESS SELF PROMOTING (sorry everyone)

That must have taken a lot of time! How, may I ask, did you get the blue cylinder to illuminate? I would love to know, as I am working on a steampunk gun, and the idea of a "plasma reservoir" has been calling to me, and having it glow would add all the more of an effect to it. Very nice gun by the way.

The blue cylinder was created using a translucent plastic tube with a small craft light that I found at Joann Craft Store. The light has a small button to easily switch it on and off and it also changes color. Thank you for your comment and your interest. Have fun making your gun I would love to see how it turns out.

I used carefully applied woodgrain contact paper and I used a small multi color craft light, that I found at Joann Craft store, and a translucent plastic tube for the lighting. It took me a couple of weeks to make this gun. Thanks vey much for your interest.

This is fantastic. I am surprised how much you did with it, my nephews have the very gun you started with. I am very impressed with the 'functionality' of it. You averted a huge gripe I have with steampunk in general, many glue gears and cogs and bits on which serve no purpose and are not at times even connected to one another. I groan at that style. Slapping it on and calling it good. I dabble with 'inventions' of my own on paper and try to make them cohesive, even if fanciful. This is a stellar example set forth of 'Here is how to do it properly'. Many, many fine details on this piece. I love the pulleys ,and they look functional! Simple, highly stylish, and superbly done.

Thank you very much! I feel the same way you do about items with a few gears glued on being called steampunk. I may not always be as successful as I was with this mod but I always try to keep my designs looking functional. Thanks again for your thoughtful comment.

Well, now this is a nice mod.
Very suttle and plausible design, yet not missing the victorian elegance as well.
And it also shows, that you can do a fine Steampunk piece out of anything if you have the right sense for it.
That's exactly what Steampunk gadgets should be!
Thank you for gracing us with your work.

The faux wood is contact paper. It takes patience to apply but gives a great effect.
