Description Like some unsuspecting players of the hit game, L.A. Noire, made by team Bondi and distributed by the Grand Theft Auto giants, Rockstar, you were hit with some nudity at crime scenes. Now most people probably already knew about this before playing the game, but some didn't, then you got those weirdo creeps who like investigating lifeless dead bodies . . .

Mordecai and Rigby just picked themselves up the game on their PlayDepot 3 to be hit with some unfiltered, unedited, human lady pex . . .

When did it become the norm in video games to have obscene language, nudity, and mass violence? Feel free to respond and maybe even say some games you enjoy. Oh by the way, L.A. Noire was a very good game in my opinion. Thats it, drop it.

I do the same method as you pointed out. Draw, scan, then color. I can't use those fancy tablet things. It never turns out "natural." Glad we are in the same boat. I was beginning to think I was the only one.

I can't draw with a mouse. ;D

As they say, sex sells. I don't really have an opinion on L.A. Noire. I am more into games where you fight and engage in combat. My favorite parts of video games are the boss fights, because of how intense they can get with their attacks and the music playing in the background.

AJMSTUDIOS In reply to LuciferTheShort [2011-08-05 07:49:25 +0000 UTC]

Seems older games really had that down. Do modern games still have good boss fights?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LuciferTheShort In reply to AJMSTUDIOS [2011-08-05 17:02:56 +0000 UTC]

Yes. I've played some games with boss fights great. Here are some examples:

Mega Man Zero 3(released in 2004):

The final boss(Omega) was very difficult, but I managed to fight hard and do my best to avoid his attacks. An adrenaline rush enabled me to beat the last phase. And like all epic final battles, it had awesome dialogue to back it up.

Mother 3(released in 2006, I never played it):

While I never played any games in the Mother/EarthBound series, I do recognize their notoriety. If I could get one of those, I would in a heartbeat. There are actually two boss fights in the game that are perfect: Master Porky and The Masked Man.

Master Porky's boss fight is cool because he is an extremely aged man who is still a kid, so to speak, and he fights you in some kind of spider mecha. The best part is Master Porky's Theme, which is one of my favorite boss themes. His battle also wins because you have motivation in fighting him for all the things he has done over the course of the game.

The Masked Man is a great battle because only Lucas can fight him and he turns out to be Lucas's brother Claus. 'Nuff said.

Of course, your milage may vary. You might think both the games I mentioned sucked. One last thing I'd like to say is that if you're really interested in seeing how boss fights have evolved over the years, check out the following videos on YouTube(Top 10 Easiest Bosses, Top 10 Most Annoying Bosses, Top 15 Greatest Final Battles in Video Game History, and Top 15 Most Disturbing Bosses in Non-Horror Games).

Thanks for the list. I've never played those actually. I have a pretty narrow selection of games I buy, but I know that if I played more, I'd like more.

I don't see the big deal really. In other countries nudity isn't really a huge deal in moderation. the human body isn't a taboo, I guess it's an american thing

AJMSTUDIOS In reply to StockholmPudding [2011-08-02 07:27:53 +0000 UTC]

American standards are pretty strict compared to around the world. Canada is pretty relaxed on their restrictions, far more then the U.S. . Yet whenever you talk to most people in the State's, they think television in America is trash, and horrible, yet why is it still being made the way it is?

Thank you for your input.

I guess society has changed a lot since when I was a kid. Would we consider this vulgor and cuss-filled television and games part of our culture now? I would like to hope not, but it does make up part of our culture . . .

Games were pretty violent from the get-go, and some people even tried to implement nudity (with hilariously bad results; Angry Video Game Nerd has made a whole episode about it, called "Atari Porn"). It's just now that the games have matured along with players, so you get mature themes dealt with in a mature way, such as in L.A. Noir, The Witcher 2 (the first one was a bit immature about it) or Mass Effect.
But is it the norm? Not really, those games just have the loudest marketing. But from what I know most games get an E from ESRB (I couldn't find anything to back that up on google though; just explanations of the rating system). I don't know what's the most popular PEGI rating.

AJMSTUDIOS In reply to SmaggTheSmug [2011-06-29 19:29:50 +0000 UTC]

Most games do get an E Rating from the ESRB. But a lot more games now are getting the M Rating for Mature. The gaming fanbase is growing up, and the big companies are trying to follow with them. To make gaming broader then for just young little kids or early teens. It's now expanding into the 20's and 30's. Who knows what is next?

SmaggTheSmug In reply to AJMSTUDIOS [2011-06-29 19:48:24 +0000 UTC]

There are already games for seniors, like Dr Kawashima's Brain Training.

Games as a medium are growing, much like film did. Now you have B movies, blockbusters, family films, chick flicks, artistic and "artistic" pictures, porn, slashers and many more.
With plot-driven games it's going to be similar. The difference is that there are casual games such as FarmVille or Angry Birds and e-sports, like Starcraft or CounterStrike alongside them. Oh, and the whole MMO genre. Those those things don't have movie equivalents, but in their case developers often focus on different things.

There's another easy explanation for developers trying to reach mature audience: they're the ones with salaries rather than allowance

AJMSTUDIOS In reply to SmaggTheSmug [2011-06-30 00:23:29 +0000 UTC]

Indeed. You bring up a good point. It hasn't really worked on consoles, but simulation games I guess could be for adults too.

I like how you tie in film to this. The peaks and lows of films, and how the gaming industry is growing in terms of genres, much like Hollywood film did in the golden age. Today many would agree most films are cookie cutter, the same, and have explosions. Video games have not yet reached this point, as we are experiencing a new dawn of creativity and technology for gaming.

Hopefully film can jump over this hurdle as well, and actually have stars that we want to look up too, not look down upon as the failure of the day in a super market tabloid.

It is certainly interesting. A game were you literally talk to people about things. If you want action, don't get it, but if you want something different, and a thinking game, it's pretty good.
