Snakes creep me out!

I happened upon this in a way I didn't expect. I returned to a little opening in the brush along the lake that I had been in earlier, trying to get some close-up shots of passing ducks. I had just sat down when I heard something odd sounding in the leaves over my right shoulder and when I turned, I saw this garter snake slowly slithering away from me still within arm's reach. If part of me hadn't been on this thing before that I'd be damn surprised!
