Winslow has been known to control pests with unorthodox methods, but this is the first time the pests themselves have been unorthodox.Can you believe this is the first time I’ve ever drawn a Metroid? I grew up in the heady 80s, when Nintendo seduced us young and impressionable youths with tales of heroic plumbers and magical triangles and motherly brains. I was around when it was revealed–shock upon shock–that Samus Aran was a woman. Oh, the schoolyard incredulity! It was just like that rumor about how you could jump over the flag at the end of Super Mario Bros. levels–and use a parachute–only this rumor was ACTUALLY REAL. So yeah. I was there. I was a witness to pop-culture being born. And yet this is the first time I’ve drawn a friggin’ Metroid.

I remember hearing about Metroid back when.
The plumber too.
I played other stuff back when.
Heck, I remember when arcade machines roamed the streets and filled them with song.
Well, if you had enough quarters.
Now arcade machines are confined to sad little reservations.
Soon even those will be gone.
