Today we’re going to get a little bit artsy and a little bit philosophical. What is art, friends? Is it an abstract rendition of emotions otherwise impossible to convey in mundane shapes and colors? Is it a painting done with such skill that it borders on photorealism? Is it a photograph in a tasteful frame, possibly in black-and-white, or at the very least some sort of sepia shade, making it look like it was taken in cowboy times? Is it a sculpture? Or a toilet masquerading as a sculpture? Or a painting of a photograph of a toilet masquerading as a sculpture? Is art a comic strip? Is it a poem, or a short story, or a novel about a poet that writes comics about short stories? Is it a sock puppet? Is it a painting done by an elephant? Is it a sculpture of an elephant with a sock puppet on its trunk, like the one you picked up at that yard sale only better because it’s mounted on a marble plinth in a museum with a vaguely French name?Is art a baby?
It’s probably not a baby.

My strong belief on the art thing is ... I really don't care anymore. I've had nothing but hatred for the 'art' community for a long, long time and don't care to join their ranks. But live baby? Now THAT'S expression!

Well, if the "artist" put the baby in a gallery for others to view, then yes its a work of art. It probably would be considered a "readymade" as well. In fact I bet more art "critics" would accept a live baby as a piece of high art then a comic.

You could say human life is the greatest work of art there is. And I mean people wouldn't roll their eyes at you for saying it, having spawn of your own.

I've heard people say that (hence this comic), but really, you don't really have any control over how the kid comes out. That's like saying the Grand Canyon or the Aurora Borealis is a work of art.

Unless you can look at the unaltered forces of nature as art itself, as I don't think it can be honestly said that everything that comes from the art is of the artist's intent.

I would argue that babies, the aurora, and the Grand Canyon are all amazing works of art created by the most creatively genius Artist of all. That's my take. But believe as ye will.
