Today we’re going to get a little bit artsy and a little bit philosophical. What is art, friends? Is it an abstract rendition of emotions otherwise impossible to convey in mundane shapes and colors? Is it a painting done with such skill that it borders on photorealism? Is it a photograph in a tasteful frame, possibly in black-and-white, or at the very least some sort of sepia shade, making it look like it was taken in cowboy times? Is it a sculpture? Or a toilet masquerading as a sculpture? Or a painting of a photograph of a toilet masquerading as a sculpture? Is art a comic strip? Is it a poem, or a short story, or a novel about a poet that writes comics about short stories? Is it a sock puppet? Is it a painting done by an elephant? Is it a sculpture of an elephant with a sock puppet on its trunk, like the one you picked up at that yard sale only better because it’s mounted on a marble plinth in a museum with a vaguely French name?Is art a baby?
It’s probably not a baby.

I've read and participated in so many "What is art" debates, it seems like "art" is just a blanket term for anything a person makes. I recently saw an interesting argument about how "art" is such a loose, stupid, archaic term that should not be used anymore. How everything is "art" and everyone is an "artist"--musicians are "artists", painters are "artists", poets are "artists," chefs are "artists" etc. There's even an exhibition of "invisible art" going on in London (I think). Invisible art! They aren't even trying anymore!

I heard that art was useless and priceless...i don't know what it is really,for me,i stand in front of a picture because i find it beautiful,showing the author's skillness and maybe,what he wanted to express.
Something original or funny attract me more than anything else.

I liked it.
I have a very liberal view to art and I say that anything that is created can be considered art. I do not believe in there being anyone else, besides humans, that can tell you "this is art and this is not art", so I think that what we call art is just a matter of our agreement or, we could say, that is a matter of perception.
And a baby, as a creation, can be considered art, too. Authors - parents, tools - organic material, creative process - sex, biological processes, etc., medium - reality (just like in performance art), the audience - anyone that get to see the baby.

I think babies are art. It takes a lot of sweating, a bit of a mess and a lot of pushing to make either art or babies. Sometime the art/baby is beautiful, sometimes it's not that pretty, so yeah, a baby is art.

art is anything that serves no practical function and could possibly appeal to somebodies sense of pleasure. And my baby is certainly my masterpiece, although he will grow out of it

was this a critique on the so called "artist" Marni Kotak who gave birth in a gallery last year to a live audience she called the exhibit “The Birth of Baby X" if so I concur the woman is a hack .
