Description Edit: This poem was NOT written by me, nor my friend. I didn't realize it was already a written poem. I don't claim it in any way, shape or form. I only wished to show off my gift from my friend.

In case you can't read it all:

IT DIDNOT INVADE MY SOUL,
SUPPRESS MY MEMORIES,
KILL MY FRIENDSHIPS,
DESTROY MY PEACE,
CONQUER MY SPIRIT,
SHATTER MY HOPES,
CRIPPLE MY LOVE,
CORRODE MY FAITH,
STEAL MY ETERNAL LIFE,
OR SILENCE MY COURAGE,
BY GOD'S WILL
I DID SURVIVE!

Not sure if this is technically visual poetry, but I wasn't sure where else to put it, okay?

This is a gift from a very good friend of mine. Well, her fiancΓ©, really. I work with the woman and she learned of my medical history. The cancer and the heart transplant.

She was in awe of it basically. She went home and told her fiancΓ© about it. He was inspired to draw me a picture.

I was in shock. Honestly, I nearly cried when I read the words he had written on there for me.

With their permission, I was allowed to post this on here for everyone else to see.

Thank you, Derek. I really means a lot to me.

May I repost this beautiful poetry? I am writing an article about cancer survival and its just perfect. PLease? It would be properly credited to Derek, if that's his name.
I am inspired and I'd like many others to be too.

I wrote some of this in my cancer journal about a year ago and asked if there was anyone who knew the entire original poem and would share it with me because I could not find it again. This is not all of it either, but perhaps it is a different part than I have there. I hope you don't mind if I it so I can later compare the words and maybe one day come up with a more complete reconstruction of the original that I read back in 2003, before my cancer. What an awesome gift from your friend!

I don't mind at all. I didn't realize it was a previously written poem until just the other day. I really need to post on the comments that I, nor my friend, wrote it. I really don't wish to get into trouble do to a copyright ordeal.

I hope things are going well with you. I had my cancer back in 1994 when I was six. I've been in remission for nearly 14 years. I hope things work out with finding the poem.

Thank you. I would not worry too much about copyright infringement at this point if I were you. The original source was something like the American Cancer Society and it was given to comfort people like you and I, not to cause us grief. I just haven't had a lot of luck finding the original source. Hopefully I will one day.

Congratulations on 14 years of remission. How awesome for you. Did you have Sarcoma or Leukemia, by chance? If you don't mind my asking.

I was in remission for close to two years. Right now I can't say that I am still in remission, nor can I say I am not. Something is happening in there, but it is not significant enough to call active cancer. So it is sort of a limbo situation. Which is really not such a bad place to be.

I had Ewing Sarcoma, to be exact. It's a long bone cancer, but mine was a race case that was found in the ribs. Now, though, it isn't that rare to be in the ribs. But, back when I had it, it was, indeed, rare.

I went through 14 months of chemotherapy treatment. In the end, it saved me, but it also damaged my heart. I had to have a transplant about four years ago. (Four years as of July 25)

I hope there isn't anything going wrong for you. I couldn't imagine having to go through everything again. Best of luck. I'll be keeping you in my thoughts.

I have sarcoma as well. That is one reason I asked if you had sarcoma. I knew it is one of the most common childhood cancers, even though all sarcoma is very rare. I have Leiomyosarcoma. Thank you for your kind thoughts.

You have been through quite a lot for someone as young. I also hope you never have to experience any of it again. God bless you.

Thank you. Yes, those are my big life stories. I wrote two things about my transplant. They are in my gallery. One is called "Abnormal Summer" and the other is called "Lesson Learned" if you wish to check them out.

Thanks again, though. I really appreciate it. And, I'm sure the gift-giver will appreciate the comment as well.
