New art of my Pokegypt series with Espathra! This Pokémon obviously refers to Queen Cleopatra (iconic haircut, her name in all languages), but is also inspired by the goddess Maat.

If we look at old representations of Cleopatra, we notice that she is often shown with an ostrich (or vulture) on her head. We also often find Cleopatra with ostrich feather fans. In general, ostrich feathers were often worn by descendants of royal lineage in Ancient Egypt.
Back to Maat. This is the Egyptian goddess of cosmic harmony, morality, world order and balance, fairness, peace, truth and justice. In Pokémon, the Psychic type is often linked to the cosmos and the Good (as opposed to Evil, represented by the Dark type). The goddess Maât is represented wearing the Feather of Truth, an ostrich feather.
Cleopatra, Maât, the ostriches, the Psychic type... everything is perfectly logical and well inspired, altough at first sight Espathra's design is quite surprising!

Concerning the art itself, I wanted to integrate a rather cliché landscape of Egypt with a lot of references and easter eggs.. We therefore find the 3 Pyramids of Giza, The Sphinx (with Furfrou Pharaoh cut), the Nile ..
I also wanted to put conspiracy theories everywhere in my art, Egypt being often linked to very far-fetched theories.. That's why we have the eye (of Horus) in the top of the pyramid for the illuminati representation, Deoxys and his flying saucer because everyone knows that extraterrestrials built them, and finally electric stations connected to the pyramids because some French rappers said they had electricity thousand years ago already!
