Description
Kingambit is my new favorite in Paldea region. In addition to having an amazing design, he has very interesting historical references!

Kingambit is inspired by the appearance of the shōgun 将軍 of the Tokugawa era 徳川幕府, a period in Japanese history when a strict military hierarchy was established. The shōgun is a title that designates the general of the Japanese army and the emperor of Japan. Kingambit could even refer directly to shōgun Tokugawa Ieyasu 徳川家康 himself, the emperor of the eponymous period. Indeed, in his representations, this shōgun is always shown in a seated position.

Knowing all this, the design and lore of Kingambit makes sense. Indeed, in the games, Kingambit commands an army of Bisharp and Pawniard. He rose to the highest rank in the army by defeating the competing Bisharp.

Let's also quickly talk about its Japanese name, Dodogezan ドドゲザン, which comes from dogeza 土下座 (the Japanese custom of kneeling down to show respect) and zan 斬 (to cut). We directly find the reference to his Kowtow Cleave signature attack (Dogezanドゲザン by the way in Japanese)!
