Description
A half-hour sketch of Pateren and Shakaku, the Phoenix King long presumed dead (the phoenix is a part of Pateren). I am rather pleased with it. I might try colored pencils or use Elements, or perhaps both.---

^^ Yaaaaaaay! It's done! Actually...I finished it a couple days ago but refrained from loading it until tonight because I was going to do a nice, blue bg but today decided not to (I waited for my art teacher to get back and suggest wether or not I should do the bg). I'm going to frame it and put it up in my room for show because I'm very proud of how this turned out
! I wanna do other piccies like this starring the Phoenix Child characters X3! I almost thought about selling this, but I decided to keep it. If I had a Print subscription I'd have made it into a Print definately. But for now, I think I'll live with the original piece hanging on my wall for all to admire affectionately ^^!Media(s):

Absolutely gorgous Akarui-chan, the motion of the fire and of Shakaku's form is beautiful and I love Pateren's posing. The subtle shift from the rising flames to Pateren's robes is very well done. I love the grace and living quality that you have given the fire, the subtle shifts from yellow to red is wonderfully portrayed giving the fire a life-like appearance. I really like the expression on Pateren's face, that slightly glassed over look as Shakaku is in control for his re-emergence back into the world. Nice job on the highlights and shadows of Pateren's form. Amazing peice as always!

I must say, I'm infatuated with how well you did the fire. But to me it seems almost as if it should have been water. I mean it's GREAT as fire, but the way you drew it, the fire seems kinda liquidy. But still cool! Maybe even cooler that way. *Thumbs up*

I used to only use pencils, then I went on to markers, then markers+pencil, then I started cging and am still workin on that. Keep working hard--it'll all pay off soon, I promise

^^ Thanks. I really do like it. I am going to take it to Kinko's and get it copied onto a nice sheet of glossy paper so I can have it frame X3. Colored pencils and markers are so fun. Play around with them a bit

Very nice. Have you been studying Egyptian mythology? The pheonix is an Egyptian creature and your concept of the pheonix being a part of Pateren is very similar to the ancient Egyptian idea that the spirit of dead person took the form of a bird, called the ka.

Nope. Never been much interested in Egyptian culture/etc. I made phoenixes firebirds, like in most cultures.
Pateren and Shakaku are fused because when the Rocs attacked the Phoenixes, Shakaku was badly injured defending the humans. He'd been watching Pateren as a child and saw him grow to be a young, pure-hearted, loving, compassionate, patient, virtuous boy. He chose Pateren as his Host because of this. After asking Pateren if he could use the boy's body until he healed and could become strong enough to kill the Rocs, Patereen agreed and the phoenix entered Pateren's body, linking with the boy's flesh, soul, and spirit in the process. Because of the fusion, they're connected in more ways than one. Pateren can call upon phonixes; he has the power of fire creation and manipulation; he is connected with all living things; he can call upon the powers of Shakaku at will; and he has eternal youth as long as he is posessed. Shakaku is still healing (for he feeds off of Pateren's life force and it is barely enough to keep Shakaku alive much less give him more energy to heal himself) and neither Pateren or Shakaku can survive without the other. Pateren worries that when Shakaku leaves his body, he will take with him most the boy's energy, and Pateren would perish. He wouldn't store up extra energy just to keep Pateren alive, the boy says.
"I am nothing but a tool--his battery. I shall perish when Shakaku leaves my body, but I am not sad. I have lived a long, full life, and have not felt the bite of death or sickness. When the time comes for me to die, I shall be able to accept Death with open, unrestrained arms, and will finally be able to put my soul to its final rest... I am becoming tired, my friend... My flesh is weakened by this life, and my spirit longs to leave its shell..." ~Pateren

Thanks. I am planning to play with them a litle more. I gave up colored pencils when I got my markers, but I am wanting to pick them up again. I am also working with oils. Considering I have only sone 2 oil paintings in my LIFE, I'm not doing too badly. I am working on a Shugo oil painting in art class and have finished my Tenmou oil painting. If I can get a photo of the finished version, I shall be sure to post it.
