Description Was doodling out variants of an older Lydia for an Rp after I had this wicked awesome Beej dream the other night.

They amused me so I thought I'd share.

Man, Lydia is hot. I remember having a crush on her when I was in high school. Come to think of it, I still have a crush on her.

Haa haa. I always liked her too. And Beej of course. I was a bit in love with Beej, gross though he was. Haa

Yeah, I think a lot of kids wanted to hang out with Beetlejuice at some point or another in their lives. Sure, he may be a pervert, but at least he's a pervert you know you'll have fun with.

Heck yes. I wanted to be Lyds back in the day. Didn't help that as a kid people told me I looked like Winona. Ha ha.

Ya know something? These days, I bet the networks today would never even consider making a cartoon based upon the movie Beetlejuice...or, not a kids cartoon at least. I mean, seriously, a 12 year old girl being best friends with a 600+ year old dead pervert who tries to marry her in the film (Though, Lydia was 16 in the movie)?! I'm surprised that parents didn't try to ban the cartoon.

Those types of parents probably never saw the original so they didn't know what it was based off of, nor were they probably aware Beej was even a ghost when they happened to glance at the set. They probably thought he was some kind of imaginary friend or something. People...pah!

I heard tell that even after Burton denied all rumors of a Beej sequal they're making one. Straight to DVD with some random director and no Keaton with more money for marketing than the film itself. *sigh* I hope they're false.

So do I. I mean, Micheal Keaton IS Beetlejuice. It just doesn't make sense not to have him in the sequel. But, alas, that's Hollywood for ya. Just look at all the sequels/prequels there are that DON'T have the stars played by the actors from the previous films. The most infamous example I can think of is "Son Of The Mask" which completely lacked Jim Carrey....who was the star of the original "The Mask".
To me, making a sequel to Beetlejuice without Micheal Keaton as Betelgeuse is the same as making a sequel to A Nightmare On Elm Street without Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger. It just doesn't work.

Yeah and the saddest thing is Keaton keeps talking about how badly he'd like to do a sequel. He's talked to show hosts and Burton about it, to no fruition. That's just harsh man.

Yeah I didn't even bother seeing Son of the Mask. I loved the original. I mean it's bad enough when good directors hand over the sequel to someone lacking, but when they don't even bother to keep the original cast or a mediocre budget? *sigh*

Hollywood sucks these days. They either make crappy sequels to good movies, crappy remakes of good movies, or they just rape Japan of its quality entertainment. Seriously, I bet THIS is the conversation that goes on with Hollywood producers when it comes to making horror films-

Producer 1: Well, fall is coming soon, and we need to make a new hit horror film for the audience.
Producer 2: Hey, how about we come up with an original script and hire talented actors and directors to make the film.
Producer 3: Are you nuts, that would me WE would have to spend money!
Producer 2: Then what do you suppose we should do?
Producer 3: We'll just find the latest Japanese/Korean/Etc horror film and remake it using the latest tween stars. Oh, and we'll make it PG-13 because EVERYONE loves that idea!
Producer 1: Wouldn't it be cheaper just to dub the original version and add subtitles?
Producer 3: Nobody cares about subtitles or dubbing! It's always better to Americanize any film that comes from Japan.

Yeah. And don't forget the blatant rape of 80's classics. Although I hold secret hope that the new Masters of the Universe will be cool. Not that I don't love Dolph Lungren, but...still.

akatheToad In reply to BaronOBeefDip [2008-05-26 03:17:23 +0000 UTC]

Coming out in one year or two I forget. There's been a lot of changing of directors and cast members so that doesn't bode well, but I do hope it gets made. M. Night Shymalon was connected to it for awhile but I dunno if he still is. I hope not. *what a twist!*

Say, did you hear that they're making a live-action version of Akira?

They're making a lot of remakes of movies. In fact, I heard the guy who made Shaun Of The Dead is gonna do a remake of the film Gorgo.

akatheToad In reply to BaronOBeefDip [2008-05-26 18:14:14 +0000 UTC]

I'm not familiar with it. I don't mind remakes as long as they're not carbon copies of the old and new and inventive. It's just...they so rarely are.

BaronOBeefDip In reply to akatheToad [2008-05-26 20:44:07 +0000 UTC]

Gorgo was a cheesy yet fun giant monster movie that was made in Britian back in the 1960s. Basically, it's about these people who capture a giant monster and and put it in the circus as an attraction. Of course, it turns out that the monster is actually a baby and...to put it nicely, mommy's VERY angry.

BaronOBeefDip In reply to akatheToad [2008-05-26 20:49:10 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, the original version is so corny but a whole lot of fun to watch. Best part is that the remake is going to have that classic guy-in-monster-suit style.

Say, have you ever heard of a film called The Valley Of The Gwangi?

akatheToad In reply to BaronOBeefDip [2008-05-27 02:24:09 +0000 UTC]

I have not, what is it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BaronOBeefDip In reply to akatheToad [2008-05-27 03:03:55 +0000 UTC]

It's an old film from the 1960s that features some great claymation by the legendary Ray Harryhausen. Basically, the plot is this...Dinosaurs VS Cowboys. I'm not making this up. Valley Of The Gwangi is a film about cowboys who discover a hidden valley where dinosaurs still exist and Gwangi, the titular monster, is an Allosaurus that they capture and take back to the city which leads to the classic "Big dinosaur escapes and rampages through the city."

Yeah, too bad the dubbed version probably won't make it to the US for another year or two. I'm STILL waiting for the dubbed version of the latest Gamera film.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

akatheToad In reply to BaronOBeefDip [2008-05-29 04:34:25 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I hate that. I mean Hell they make movies in a year or less, they can't dub an existing one faster than that?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BaronOBeefDip In reply to akatheToad [2008-05-29 05:16:04 +0000 UTC]

Unfortuntely, no. It's like I said before, Hollywood can spend millions of dollars and hours making an Americanized crap version (IE: A shitty remake) of a Japanese horror film, but they NEVER want to bother with simply dubbing the original version...or simply adding subtitles DESPITE the fact that doing so would be a hell of a lot cheaper.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

akatheToad In reply to BaronOBeefDip [2008-05-29 11:13:41 +0000 UTC]

Well at least it's better than back in the day when you were lucky to get the movies over here at all. Although having to wait for Miyazaki makes me all sorts of unhappy.

BaronOBeefDip In reply to akatheToad [2008-05-29 14:11:22 +0000 UTC]

akatheToad In reply to BaronOBeefDip [2008-05-29 17:56:16 +0000 UTC]

Nah. He retired at one time but then came back to direct Howl's Moving Castle and there's been rumors either way, but it looks like he's still making them. And his son too, the other Miyazaki. *shrug*
