The artist here is taking a character well known to many and trying to do something new with her. Not an easy task in general and not one with this character in particular. Let's be honest 9 times out of 10 most of the work you see about Seoni (this character) is of the sort of "oh look, I am magical. And half-naked". The artist here manages to maintain the crucial aspects of her character; she is magical, she does favor clothing that allows her free movement, but he manages to avoid to pitfalls other artists fall into.
There is a lot of detail here that is right. I am not a stickler, but her tattoos look right to me; what is more important is that they are there and they are what your eyes are drawn too.
Her outfit is still impractical, but as an archetype it is how we recognize her so nothing off the artist for that. I have seen cosplay versions so at least I know it is something that can be worn.
The toenail painting is not something I ever noticed before and is a nice detail here. Given who this character is it make perfect sense.
The hair is great. Crazy and all over the place, as it should be.
Ok. Let's address the big one. The platypus.
I am not sure what made the artist put that in as the subject, but I am so glad he did.
The look on Seoni's face of "what the hell are you?" is priceless. It's like she is asking "are you a duck or an otter?" To me that makes this so much more than another Pathfinder Iconic piece. I want to know what was going on here. I want to know what this platypus did to merit such scorn.
I will also mention this. I am also pleased that the artist made the rare choice and not give her gigantic breast. Yes. There are plenty of large chested women in the real world, but there seems to be a disproportionate number in fantasy art. She can be attractive and not have to be cheesecake.
Honestly. It's the look on her face that keeps me coming back to this one.
Great job!

The idea might have been Paizo's but the execution of the idea was yours.

Thanks for this critique, however I cannot take all the credit as the concept was provided by Paizo, I'm merely executing someone else's ideas

An awesome illustration. Though, as has probably been noted by others before. If she's holding a male platypii...She's in for a nasty and painful encounter with his poisoned spurs on the back legs there.
Still...yay platypus!
Very much cheers to you and yours.

Thank you! Actually, the book is about animal companions so I don't think she's in danger, plus she's a sorceress so chances are she has some kind of defensive spell on her.

Heh..not sure if Sorceress' get 'Remove poison'.
Still...she's a high level character, she'd have a potion of two.
People don't give my native countries fauna the respect it really deserves.
Still..is great to see one of the furry lil' monotremes getting some artistic lovin'.
Very much wishing yourself and yours all the very best.
