I played a 'gnarly' age of worms campaign a few years ago, this is giving me flashbacks to it.
The campaign itself was supplemented with some Elder Evil materials so we faced a few 'worms that walked'. Stopping an evil that you unleashed upon the world has a strange catharsis to it. As is battling Kyuss in a tank inspired by Da Vinci's work. The campaign took place in a time and place equivalent to France during the reign of the 'Sun-King', sue me for painting a picture.

you know, lichs are usually the go to template for toughening spell casters, and while a worm that walks wizard is scary because it is a spellcaster that has -/15 DR, great fast healing, and immunity to single target spells ie: all insta kills and disintegrate. They have a little known ability adding a insight bonus to their AC. Thus the worm that walks cleric was born (Worm Knight CR 12), by Sarenrae after my min maxing a 11 level cleric with full equipment that thing had around 42 AC (27 touch ) and could lay down approximatelyΒ 2d10 +16d6+12 average= 74 with a 2 attack full attack.( For the attack I accomplished most of this through two things the feat Guided hand from ultimate combat which for clerics wielding their favorite weapon give wisdom as their attack bonus meaning they can always land a hit, since you put everything into their wisdom, which you jack up to 30 by putting the nat 18 in wis +2 racial + level ups +4 headband of wisdom bonuses +4 owls wisdom. The weapon is a unholy and grey flame, grey flame allows you to use channel energy to add a 1d6+1 per channel die for dame number of rounds as channel die, to your weapon against enemies of the opposite on the good and evil axis, it is only a +1 weapon bonus.Β Just put it in full plate and give it a shield, the weapon i gave it as favored was a bastered sword by the way, and you get this ludiscriously difficult to kill foe, although they do take 150% damage from AOE, but they can drop most enemy spell casters in two rounds.

our last campaign had a worm guy in it! it was great. He almost killed us. Until our cool undead buddy sent an orb of disenchantment to him. That ended the problem of him being mad at us for not killing the guy he didn't even pay us to kill pretty fast.

Aw hell yes! A Worm That Walks! My favourite of all magically augmented villains. Beats the Lich every time.
I really love how the spurt of worms where the warrior (whose name I forget despite knowing he comes from Pathfinder) hit her. Β Can't really hurt a being without organs and who is made of worms in that sort of way. Steel is all but useless in this battle.Β
And the poor bard too. That looks like a disintegration spell. Either that or an Energy Drain. Either way he's not going to be getting up soon. This's going to be an intense boss fight for the two of them, and I'm not sure if they'll make it out alive. At least not without some magical help.Β
Anyway I love this pic. Not only is it a great example of the AWESOMENESS that is the Worm That Walks, but it's just a great picture in general. The lighting is great, the details like the rat make the tomb feel alive (pun not intended) and the atmosphere captures the horror of the situation, what with the gargoyles above and the moss and chains hanging around. Simply superb.
Here's to hoping these two heroes manage to escape without becoming worm chow!
