Hey, Core Members!
Have you found yourself slipping into a productivity slump? Maybe you need a bit of a push into creativity? Perhaps you crave a challenge? Or maybe the Thursday Prompt isn't enough for you?
Well, we're excited to announce an exclusive event just for our Core Members: CORE POWER HOUR!
Mark your calendars! Core Power Hour will take place on Thursday, October 25 from 9 AM to 5 PM PDT (Los Angeles time). A new challenge each hour. Winners each hour. Amazing prizes each hour.
We’re talking EIGHT straight hours of various challenges to get your creative juices flowing, art skills flexing, and most importantly, for you to have some fun! There will be one challenge per each hour — a total of eight challenges — so these events will be quick. You’ll have 30 minutes to create and submit your entry. Each challenge will have multiple winners, meaning you’ll have even more chances to win awesome prizes!
All works must be original works made specifically for each challenge (unless specified within the specific challenge).
Deviations found to be plagiarizing other works will be disqualified and removed.
If you are using other works that are not your own, you must make sure you have permission to use those works and credit the artist(s) whose work(s) you've used.
Works must be submitted within the provided timeframe of the specific challenge.
You must be a Core Member as of October 24, 2018 to enter.

Challenges
You’re probably wondering what kind of challenges these will be, huh?
Well, we can’t tell you exactly what they are, but we can say there will be opportunities for Art and Literature creation. With 30-minute creation windows, we hope that everyone will have time to be able to participate in at least one challenge. You can join as many challenges as you like and win multiple times!
Prizes
There will be multiple winners in each challenge, so we highly encourage you to participate. Here’s a preview of some of the prizes that’ll be offered:

Nintendo Switch
Entries will be judged based on creativity, originality, and adherence to the specific challenge, which will then be judged by DeviantArt staff and an outside, independent party. Winners for each challenge will be announced via journal at the end of that challenge’s hour.
What can you do then in the meantime to prepare for Core Power Hour? Make sure to join the CoreMembers group, as the challenges will be posted here as a journal entry at the top of each hour. We’ll also be posting updates with some challenge hints soon, so keep your eyes open!

Promotion: pay money to us, for a slight chance to win money in return. I must ask, who is this more incentivizing? Us or you...? This is why dA is dying...
Try this instead.
1. Make your members money without them having to give you their money first. (IE: if the site profits, give the creators a cut.) Sure you lose out at first, until more creators show up with their fan bases. Then you cash in even more. Especially as profits drive creativity. IE: ditch the CORE pay wall, let everyone have the benefits. Ditch points, switch to cash, take a very small cut, earn through volume instead. Pay creators for add clicks if they generate a set amount of traffic where it actually pays to pay them.
2. Adjust your algorithms. Stop overly promoting artist of dead or mostly inactive profiles. IE: limit popular algorithms to promote art no more than 2 years old, max. Get strictly novice art out of your top searches, top notch artist hate sub ranking to a novice... hence why so many left after you did that.
3. Don't base your copyright protections on laws (becasue 'Fare use' sucks for artists.) Instead base it on appearance and original style. Becasue as it is, most major 'original' artists are leaving based purely on the fact, novices are natural copycats and steal every idea not nailed down. Thus veterans flee their novice artistic fans. In favor of site like Twitter which is full of 'non artists' whom do not steal their style/characters...

To the people saying you couldn't possibly finish anything in just 30 minutes... you're missing the point of the event! No one is expecting you to finish a masterpiece that would normally take you hours to finish, it's supposed to be quick, it's expected your entry will be unrefined to certain degree, it won't be your best work of all times, but that's not the goal here!
It says it very clearly: "Entries will be judged based on creativity, originality, and adherence to the specific challenge", not on the most refined and detailed work. The short time window is the main obstacle to overcome here, just be creative and you'll be fine! And most importantly, have fun! It's supposed to be fun first and foremost!

Why limit non-core members?
Why treat Devant Art members that don't have core lesser than those why have it? They could of been on the site since it was new, and be an active member, but wouldn't be allowed to join simply because they don't have core?

My thoughts were that this could be a perk for core members as well as a means to test out an idea/contest on a smaller scale (like the beta feature some users have access to).
Though, after reading the admin comment below, i guess this IS a form of beta testing. Hopefully non core users can get contests like these in the future too

"We can't really change it by stating our opinions." To be blunt, that's exactly how to try to change things. You can't change things be being silent my friend, you have to speak up to have your words heard.
This was important enough that I felt the need to speak up.
Don't get me wrong, DA doing this is great. They're going out of their way to make a fun event and even give out prizes- however they're excluding so so many of their loyal member by choosing this to be for Core-Members only. Far more members don't have core than have it, and I even have a friend who would love a chance at a prize like this that can't afford Core. They've been on for over 5 years, but right now they are being left out simply due to not being able to have core regularly- And they've had core in the past, and helped DA by paying real money for their core, but they are being left out a treated like a less-important member of the community.
The main reason I spoke up, and do now, is because DA positively would be able to include non-core member and simply chose not to. There isn't a gain for them for omitting non-core members . They just did, which isn't right.

Hi, rascal4488 ! I understand your apprehension over why this is limited to Core Members.
One of the ways we approach Core-only contests is that they serve as a testing ground for future contests which we can then roll out to the entire DA community. Our intention here is to not make anyone feel left out or excluded, but rather we want to make sure that when we open opportunities for all deviants to participate in contests like this, we do it right.
This is the first time we're doing something like this, and we want to make sure that if we're going to do it again, we do it right. I think it would make a lot of sense to launch it to a smaller subset of the community so that if there are things that we can improve on, we can do so, and by the time it rolls out to the wider community, we can get everything running smoothly.

Top of the hour? I know I won't be able to write a complete story of any significance in 30 minutes, let alone proofread it.
