"Huh."

Vigil's face turns to Kane's, brows furrowed at the little expression the grey wolf makes.

"What?" Vigil says in that tone of annoyance, though they don't mean it, not with him. He's looking at them with that sly half-smile, eyes soft. "If there's something on my face, I'd appreciate a notice."

"It's nothing," Kane confirms for them. "Just. . . didn't know how pretty your eyes are in the light like this."

Vigil blinks once, then twice, their eyes wide in surprise at his words. The usual grimace on their muzzle turns into something a little less harsh.

"Oh." Their ears feel hot, all of a sudden. ". . . Thank you."

And in this moment, they realize how attractive they find his smile.
