NOTE: When Kadaj wields Rao in scythe-form, it temporarily discolors his hands and areas of skin in closest contact. It usually takes several hours for the effects to wear off. The longer he wields it, the further the discoloration spreads.

BACKGROUND
Kadaj is the middle child of his family - younger than his brother Akido, and quite a bit older than their baby half-sister, Petra. With their mother disappearing shortly after their sister’s birth and their father being constantly away, the two brothers helped raise one another. This led to plenty of fights, but also quite a bit of bonding. Despite their age difference they stayed together into adulthood.

Seeking a chance to get a new start away from their father’s ‘Godhood’ and worshippers, they left their home planet to find a cheap living space on a transitory moon. Akido immediately got a job working for the local enforcement agency as a deputy and Kadaj found work as a bouncer at a night club, a line cook, a traveling salesman, and finally settled on being a taxi driver.

Kadaj has been engaged twice, but both resulted in tragedies. His first fiancee vanished mysteriously - no note, no ring, abandoned all her belongings. Kadaj immediately assumed she was the victim of kidnapping but the authorities - assisted by his brother - were never able to turn up anything. His second fiancee was killed in an accident a few months before their wedding. There were signs of foul play inside her car, but authorities again were never able to recover any significant evidence to continue.

Kadaj wears his engagement ring from his second engagement as atonement for never being able to solve the death and disappearance of his former betrothed. He has since convinced himself that he is bad luck with women and has avoided forming any relationships since then.

KADAJ AND AMADAHY
Kadaj met Amadahy shortly after Akido was transferred to a more chaotic planet called Feltz as new chief-of-peace-keeping. Though the brothers saw her at the same time, Kadaj dared Akido that he’d never be able to date her more than a week. He was fully intending to ask her out when his brother - who famously thwarted his previous two dozen relationships - inevitably screwed up. But they didn’t break up. She became the first woman Akido dated that tolerated his rampant anger issues and never minded his long hours away at the peace-keeping academy.

Kadaj begrudgingly started dating again after Amadahy revealed she was pregnant with her first child. In two short years he met and lost his second fiancee. At the hospital, Amadahy was the one who re-invited him to live with her and Akido and their daughter in exchange for him helping around the house when Akido was away. Kadaj agreed, and immediately became the greatest uncle in the history of uncles. He is often confused as being his niece and nephew’s father because of their close relationship.

He never did fully get over his infatuation with Amadahy, but he never acted on it because of his respect for his brother.

After her death, Kadaj was the first one to find the bodies - both of Ama and her daughter. His quick thinking got the daughter to the hospital, but Amadahy was already gone. Since then he’s filled in on her behalf, making care-taking of the kids his full time job and only driving a taxi when he knows Akido will be with them.

The treasured brother-in-law!

Ahhhh, I didn’t think it would happen, but with the chapter 1 prompt from the Judges I couldn’t help it. I just had to introduce Kadaj Lockhart, my most beloved male OC <3 He’s been in my stories since I was 14 and has developed from an unfeeling, ruthless leader to a fun-loving goober of a demi-god. He’s the color to Amadahy’s black and white theme (though I am still going to be doing the rounds in monochromatic tones).

I told myself repeatedly “Aki, don’t make the reference complicated”. Then I kept adding more and more details and it wound up looking similar to Ama’s ref...only way more colorful and fun. Pink! So much pink. Shorter if only by a smidge. The extra information is available at the bottom of my comments here.
