Description
This is my entry for HelevornArt 's contest. I decided to portray her character Hakon, a Norse Berkserker, with two of my mercenaries, Morholt and Bjorn Axe-wife (so called because he never parts with his axe, not even when he goes to bed - thank you to Azul-din for this nickname!).Our stories have a nice overlap so it was fun having the characters meet finally. My idea here is that Morholt and Bjorn arrived in Norway some time ago after a finished contract, and are trying to convince Hakon to let them 'hitchhike' with him and his men to Iceland. They are broke (well Morholt is anyway) and so Morholt is suggesting that they can pay for their passage with their fighting (and musical
You can see more of Hakon here:
Also have some nice music I was listening to while drawing: www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZdWpj…

Hahaha what a cool crossover.
Although. I'd suggest "Bjorn Axe-wed" as the nickname instead since "Axe-wife" confused me since it kinda suggests he's the wife xD

Thanks!
Heh, well that was sort of the idea actually. You know, a bit of a joke, calling this huge guy 'wife'. It wasn't his choice of name. He's friends started calling him that.

Hahaha oh I see. K, so the axe is the husband and he's the wife then

I love how luminous the moon is here, and the way that the water gleams beneath the starlight is incredible!
This is an excellent crossover and as always, the details are incredible, especially the shields on the boat.
Fantastic work- I wish you all the best with the contest!

Thank you so much dear! Blue colourschemes are my favourite ones, yet this one turned out more difficult than I anticipated. So I'm glad you think it turned out well!
Thanks! XD

Absolutely gorgeous! I don't know how you get that moon glow with traditional art but it is so fantastic! So detailed as well! Beautiful beautiful work again! I am so jealous of your watercolor skills LOL!

Aww thank you! Well the moonglow is achieved through a more wet surface around the moon. Though to be honest, recently I'm very disappointed with my watercolours. I think I've spent too much time on digital because of the comic!

Great entry! Good luck on the contest. you've just reminded me to hopefully start my entry some time over the weekend. I've been really behind on a lot of this kind of stuff.
It's a really cool idea to have Morholt appear with Bjorn! It appears that Hakon is already prepared to not be impressed by what they have to offer by the look on his face and his crossed arms, but Morholt seems like he is confident he will change Hakon's mind with his musical talent. I'm sure he will succeed!
I really like how you did the night sky, as usual (you're always so good at making things look so smooth! and the moon so shining) and the great details on the ship and the clothes.

Thank you! I had fun drawing this one. Our characters have such a great overlap. Haha, yeah I don't think Hakon is too impressed for now. But maybe curiosity will get the better of him!
Thanks. It's nice to hear that, especially that I wasn't that happy with the sky in this one so that makes me feel better about it! Thank you!

Ah... Great concept!!!
I really like your night scene and your use of blue! If asked what's your artwork strengths are I will answer those.
Loving the small waves near the shore, and the details on the longboat
Love how you make the character expressions.
Morholt expression is like "I can make ur ship lit, buddy! In this night Hakon gonna make some serious decisions.

Thank you! It was fun, Helevorn's and my characters have a lot in common.
Lol yeah Morholt is really trying hard to sell the idea. Hakon doesn't seem impressed for now though...

You worked out such perfect expressions on the three of them. Hesitant skeptism, optimistic salesmanship, and Bjorn looks like he thinks things are already settled and he just has to wait for things to go his way.

Thank you! I had fun trying to indicate what they feel and what they're saying even though they're so small in the picture. You read their expressions perfectly, that's exactly what I was going for!

Thank you for the mention! I had nearly forgotten stealing Bjorn for 'Sulien's Saga'. I wonder how he made out in Byzantium?
Great work- good to see you back in Aquarelle, not that your digital work is anything to complain about these days! Looks like a good night for a moonlight voyage, with musical accompaniment.

I really liked how you portrayed him there, in fact it influenced how I now think of the character. As to Byzantium, well I imagine that trip really sealed his fate as a wanderer and swor(axe) for hire. He just grew to love travel so much and doesn't want to get attached to any one place.

This is this about a character like Bjorn; he carries his certainties around with him, with the advantage that they will never betray him or play him false.

I love the expressions and just the whole mood of the two trying to convince Hakon who doesn't seem all that impressed so far.

Haha, well Hakon is a man of good birth and a leader of men, hardly to be impressed by this mercenary riff-raff! But Helevorn said he will agree, lol.

Oh wow this is great, and I love the well thought out tale of their meeting to go along with it - Hakon should ask for a sample of this 'talent' before he decides to afflict his crew with it...
I love the blueeeeee, and the way you painted the gentle waves they're standing in, Bjorn looks like he's letting Morholt do all the talking and is hoping this works because Hakon sure aint looking like he's been sold on the idea yet!
I love the night shadows on the ship in the background, especially the figures, and the vague shield designs.
This is a great and well thought out cross over

Haha, especially Morholt's musical talent...a sample of Bjorn's talents might be pretty fatal!
Yeah exactly he's the type of guy who usually lets others do the talking. Luckily for him Morholt is always happy to do it...*doesn't shut up ever*
Thank you!

Lol, their axe-dancing routine might not have been as great an idea as they thought...and it all seemed so magical in theory.
Or he lets his axe do the talking *berserker roar of brutal persuasion*
awwwww, Hakon might just let them come on board to make him stop!

Oh this is so exciting, thank you so much for this amazing entry!
The colours scheme is wonderful, the moon and the water really help create the atmosphere of this piece - it looks calm, like a warm summer night! I also like how you showed the ship with sails up and the silhouettes. Hakon's outfit and hair are great, he's very recognizable. Bjorn is such a fitting choice and he's a mysterious character I'm curious to get to know better, and I'm glad you chose Morholt since he's one of my favourite characters out of your cast. He's adorable and, with that charming smile, I have a feeling he can convince to get him aboard! Hakon is impressed by kids with potential and would like to give him a chance and, once he sees what he can do (both in terms of fighting and musically), he'll be happy to see him in action
Also, great choice of music <3

I'm so glad you like it! I had so much fun with this! I'm especially pleased that Hakon is recognisable. It was intersting trying to 'catch' Hankon's face, because in some sense he is much like Bjorn (large, bearded, golden blond hair) so I needed to take a lot of care to make them clearly distinct and easy to distinguish. I wanted for Hakon to have this air of leadership which Morholt and Bjorn generally lack.
I'm glad you like Morholt. He's a fun one. Haha, who could say 'no' to that smile, right? But honestly, they might turn out pretty useful on board, they're not a complete waste of space! And they both know their way around a longboat.

That's right, there are some similarities; but you managed to make them very distinguishable in stature and attitude.
Yess And I'm sure they will prove useful in the adventures to come and Hakon will be happy to have brought them on
