Description Spring is coming!
A walking his friend's dog. He looks strangely light-hearted.
I had a lot of fun doing the rain and the puddles and researching english springer spaniels.

Pretty good wall for a Philosophy Student, most of the perpends (vertical joints) nicely offset in a pleasantly random way. Good lines on the figure of A. , that casual slouch is just enough off balance to indicate the motion of taking an unhurried step. It would have to be a spaniel , standing so unconcerneedly inthe rain! I like the foliage on the tree, too- altogether a nice celebration of the season.

Thank you! I was afraid that the foilage is too dense. These early spring flowers are more delicate and the branches show much more through them...But I didn't manage to make that work here unfortunately. I was happy about the wall though .

I wonder if in fact the detail necessary to depict the flowers would have detracted from the central figures - better perhaps to abstract as you have in fact done, without being so specific as to early or later spring?

I'm happy you think so! I did want to keep them very simple with less details - abstract if you like, but I think, making the branches show a little more through them would have been better (if I would have been able to do this properly).

One thing you might have done, perhaps, would have been to scatter random droplets of water ( pink tinted for apple or cherry blossoms) over the area, then swiftly paint between them with a very heavy dense paint, (prussian blue mixed with cadmium red, or just Van Dyke Brown or burnt Umber mixed with Black) just making bits of twig and branch quite at random . The surface tension of water on paper is quite handy if you know how to use it.

Thank you so much! That sound's very useful! I'll definitely try this next time I try to do blooming trees!

I really like the rainy mood you managed to create here, with all those blue-ish colours. It looks amazing! I also like the way you drew the dog, the colours you used for his fur are nice, too.

Thanks so much! I was very happy with the dog actually, it was fun drawing him. Though I think he's a little too big for a springer spaniel.

Hmm. I've seen big springer spaniels so I think he's fine. I can never get dogs to look right so again great job.

Great work! For me (someone who had never drawn anything half as good as your watercolors) it is amazing how you can paint entire scene with various shades of a single color. I love the atmosphere this painting has, the colors are very good and the way you depicted rain against the tree and the dog is just great! I have downloaded this and at least for the next few days this will be on my desktop!

Thank you so much! I'm really happy you like it, it was a lot of fun to draw. Bit of an experiment really, I haven't ever drawn rain before.
