Let us kick off November with some of my recent sketches.When did I last draw Xenus or even pay attention to him? Long time. I feel bad. Xenus was one of my most original kaiju to ever make. He's certainly one of those Kaiju that has gotten a good amount of praise out of my rooster.
He's basically a animate Alien Fungus-type creature which has a sadistic streak. He's even been in crossovers DesolationMM did, and in that case I noticed how powerful Xenus could be when he went head-to-head with RendragonClaw Dryton and held his own.
I'll never underestimate one of my monsters again.
Since then, Xenus has been put on the shelf as he has been cut from KAS and my own Kaijuverse is on a hiatus. Shame on me. Looking back on what my friend Jared did in some sketches of my monsters, I used some of suggestions he used.
Now Xenus looks kinda like a big salamander mixed with a toad. I like it. I'll certainly keep these sketch in mind for future reference.

I like what you're doing with this guy texturally. The chest detail is good and I think the big, fleshy masses on the sides of his neck do a great job of making him look weird and weighty. The tendril fingers are an interesting touch, too, though I wonder if you could find a design element to connect them with the face. As it is he's got a fairly bony, dinosaurian-looking head and it comes across as a bit out of place compared to the softer, more fungal and invertebrate parts of the body. The individual features are cool but as a whole I think the design could be unified more.
I've also gotta say that the stance and body shapes in this version remind me a lot of Orga (while the old 2010 design was more of a lithe Deviljho). Maybe you could find some kind of middle ground between the two designs that'd give him a more unique posture? Just a thought.

Its nice to know Xenus is sitll one of my best works. The Orga similarities are not coincidence. suggested them when he did a sketchdump of my kaiju, and so I took the idea and tried my own spin on it. Adding back in more of his lithe elements from older designs may be the very thing that Xenus needs.
