Sooooo!!!! I wasn't supposed to upload him until many chapters later but....well....I couldn't help myself! He's gorgeous and I really wanted you, people, to see him and I think he is perfect for #Mermay since he is a merfolk! (I had him ready since two years ago, anyway... :/ It's a good opportunity to upload him now that I'm busy with commissions.)
So, Joseph is a VERY important character and he is a male Undine, an original species of my novel "Otherworld Legacy Trilogy". You can now see how different male and female Undines are (Rihanna is a female Undine). I'll explain more in the species ref sheet.
There's a lot more about him but I won't write them yet! Don't wanna spoil it!

Bio:
Joseph (former Atlantean form "Iósef"), just like Rihanna, was one of the last remaining Undines. He was born in the 3rd Clan; son of Rántis and Leára. He lived in Antária, the last capital of Atlantis. His father was the royal blacksmith and one of the few remaining people that knew how to forge weapons with Ásvelon (the strongest and hardest Atlantean metal alloy).
He and Rihanna were inseparable childhood friends. He had secretly always been in love with her. The day she was born, when he was only 6 Δár old (Atlantean year-calculating unit. 1 Δár=1000 human years.), he gifted her a gold heart locket with her name carved on it and he gave her a promise. That one day, when she would grow up, he would marry her.
When Joseph was 15, his mother, Leára, just disappeared one day without letting any trace or note behind. His father looked everywhere for her and the Queen - Rihanna's mother - who were close friends with Leára, ordered a party of guards to search for her. But they never found her and nobody ever spotted her again, as if she had vanished from the face of the earth. Her marriage was happy and she adored her son; there was no obvious reason why she would abandon her family. Therefor, the only explanation they had was that she was dragged and killed by animals but they never found her body or, at least, her bones.
2 Δár after that, Joseph's father, Rántis, became ill and eventually passed after a heart attack due to his unbearable sadness. Afterwards, Rihanna's parents took Joseph under their protection.
While Joseph and Rihanna were growing up, they spent most time of the day together. He always looked after her and protected her. That was one of the reasons that pushed him towards becoming her personal bodyguard at the age of 18. He was the first and only siren to become a royal guard, defying all previous laws with centaurs being the only guards of the royal family. He was marked on the inner side of his right forearm with the royal crest just like the rest of the guards. Privileged with siren power, he became the most capable guard with an incomparable swordsmanship. He earned a medal of honor after saving Rihanna's life from a smilodon attack when she was only 14 Δár old.
He and Rihanna used to spend a lot of time in the central library of Antária, reading all sorts of books for hours. He learned and practiced woodcarving until he mastered it.
When Rihanna was 17, for the first time, he dared asking her if she liked anyone, expecting and wishing for the answer to be him. Rihanna surprised him by telling him that she was, indeed, in love with someone but never defining who that was nor ever discussing about it again, giving him a tremendous disappointment.
However, he didn't stop loving and caring for her, and he kept trying to win her heart until fate split them for good 1 Δár later when she fled Atlantis after one of the greatest murder incidents in Atlantean history.

Appearance Details:
Skin: Vibrant cobalt-blue (hex code #5789ce ).
Hair: Dense kelp-like protrusions, starting from the top of the forehead and ending on the waist. Also on the eyebrows, knees and a pair of long ones under the chest.
Nails: Short, same color as the rest of the body.
Fins: Prusian-blue (hex code #247289) spine fins on top of the forearms, two under the chest, on the ears and feet. They have poisonous thorns (except for the ones on the ears and chest) that pop-out during the defensive state.
Extra: There is a reddish mark on the bottom side of his forearm (hex code #813663). It looks somehow like an incomplete trident or a W with a dot below it. There are sparse gill-looking marks around his body except they are not gills nor openings (they provide male Undines with extra flexibility while underwater). His fingers are connected with membranes. His eyes glow in the dark.
Reproductive system: His genitals are hidden behind the front kelp-like protrusions that keep them clean and protect them from infections.
Appearance: There are two closed gills on each side of his neck. The skin in his eyes and mouth is violet-blue (hex code #ab4ae1 ).
Scales: Shiny placoid shark-like scales all over the body except for around the eyes, nose and lips.
