So, this is the Harpy original character from the first book, "Nightfall", of my "Otherworld Legacy Trilogy" novel!! I won't do her portrait because I think this can work for both the poster and the portrait! I'll include any details in her concept art! The Harpy is one of the many species of the "Otherworld Legacy Trilogy"!

------

This took me...TOO long!! I've started experimenting with Photoshop and the variety of brushes it provides but I still got a lot of practise to do with them! So, it could have turned out WAY better!

Note: This is the least gory picture this trilogy contains! Just to let you know!

Hope you like it!

This is really fierce! Digging the overall look, the sharp and pointy claws, and the intense dark-eyed stare of the figure. The wings too are nicely done, and the overall dark atmosphere of the piece pulls me in.

You mentioned that you were looking for feedback on the anatomy and lighting. The anatomy looks good to me, and I'm not nearly good enough at the wings to provide any useful feedback there. The lighting looks great too - the light from the glowing magic ball in her (his?) hands lights up her face in a wonderfully creepy way. The two bits that I would put in some detailed work with would be the chain hanging from the character's neck and the ball of light itself.

If the ball of light is on a different layer, I'd delete it entirely and start over with wisps coming off a center ball drawn with hard brushes instead of soft, or a hard brush circle center surrounded by a soft brush glow. It sounds counterintuitive, but hard brushes (and a hard eraser) can totally work, and creates a more "glowy" effect. Here are a couple of my favorite glow tutorials, each showing off a different approach:

(Some might be more useful than others. I hate photoshop's blur brush, so I would only do the first tutorial if I were using Painter, for example)

Hope this helps!

Thank you very much for the critique, ninebark! It really helps! I, indeed, too, want to fix the magic ball to intensify it! The tutorials you sent me are really useful! Thank you very much!!!
