my back curves in inverse fibonacci spirals
crack opens each vertebrae
tears my spinal cord, bares my neuroses
read the insinuation in the sinuation of my bones
I am no armadillo
my arms neither armour nor armament
only poles for whiteflag semaphor
I turn my back to you not in rejection but in hope
you will shield my weakest front.

The ironic part is that wordplay usually isn't a significant part of my work. Maybe I was subconsciously saving it up and put it all into this poem?

"Halfway between fetal and natal is the fatal position" <- That line right there... how did your brain come up with it?
The whole thing is brilliant. It's an elegant and articulate way of saying 'watch my back'... in more than one sense of the phrase. Its about giving in to someone; letting them in and showing them your vulnerbilities so they can protect you. Plus it really gives you something to think about. I guess our organs are our subconscious priority.
That's just how I see it anyway.

You're the third person to single out that line and I honestly didn't think it was that remarkable. 
Yeah, that's pretty much exactly what I wanted to convey. On a personal level, it's a wish written in vain because everyone I normally go to for support is too busy with their own problems, but I'd have to write an entirely new poem to properly address that.

I don't know. I think it's clever. It's something that clearly not a lot of people have thought of before and so it's this small revelation.
Hmm, I get that. Everyone's got their own thing that's weighing them down and sometimes that makes it hard to support others. I've heard the phrase: 'I've got my own shit to deal with' too many times in the last month.
