I'd love to see a tutorial or at least a timelapse of you working on this. I have been trying to do something similar for quite a while now, haven't quite nailed the separation between fine details and lose strokes.

I've been meaning to; I'll do one next time I do a watercolor. I start with the detailed bits, always the eyes first, then nose then mouth, and as I move away from those points I get loose. I probably spent an hour and some changed on the detailed bits...and like ten minutes on the rest.

I love the simple gestures you use to just make an impression of things like the other person and shoulders, but then you contrast it with the lips and eyes/nose. Very cool.
I've been trying to do something like this forever.

Thanks! I just start with the detailed work and start getting looser as I work outwards. Have fun

Very nice. Is the paper actually greyish or did you do a wash of grey? I like the effect.

Actually it's just been quite grey in Houston the last couple of days and I don't have a flash on my camera! I'm glad you like it though

Beautiful movement. I like the simplicity of the strokes and the grayscale as well. Beautiful job.

Lol the shift from detail to minimalism . It's like the person that is holding her though isn't really there, but can still fell their presence...
