♡ Tumblr post___________
My first finished sculpture!
He’s 2,7 inches (~7 cm) in height. I really like the result, and hopefully my next figures will be even better.
It was really fun working on it and I hope to sculpt more in the future.
___________
Character - Asriel (Undertale, Toby Fox)

Thank you! I used FIMO Professional Doll Art, the lightest one, I liked that it's semi-transparent!

Wow, this is simply amazing! So many details and this pose It looks like an official one.
I have done a sculpture out of clay once and I know how hard it is to get all this details in. What material did you use?

Thank you!
Yeah, the process is really slow, but that's why I just LOVE comparing WIP pictures to the final figure
I use "FIMO professional doll art" polymer clay as a main material, and also steel wire, tin foil and acrylics :>

You're welcome
Yeah, I can relate. I worked three weeks on my sculpture and I really had a lot of fun with it to see how it slowly came to life Sadly it broke when it was in the stove
At least I have the small version and pictures of the big one
Ah, Fimo. I already saw many great works done with it but never tried it out. It seems to be quite expensive.
How long did you work on it anyway?

Owww, that's sad. Probably the layer of clay was too thick or the material itself wasn't good enough? Also if you're working with polymer clay, the main thing you need to follow is the right temperature, and a lot of ovens tend to change from the set temperature.
Yeah, in my country it's like $5 for a small block, but it's not that bad if you use a lot of tin foil for a filler, so for 1 figure you can go with 1/3 of that block or so. I also know a lot of people recommend Super Sculpey, it comes in nice big blocks and they have it in that cool beige semi-translucent color, but I haven't worked with it yet.
I have no idea how long exactly I was working on it, since I tend to do a lot of breaks to have a rest and then continue working with new thoughts and energy. Sometimes I even lay the work aside for a week or two. But it was WIP for 3-4 weeks.

Sorry for the late reply. Deviantart decided to simply delete some of my messages and I had to search for them again
It was my first time doing a sculpture and I had no experience with it at all. So I have no idea. The layer surely was thick but it was completely hollow inside. My teacher said that it is always a huge risk to put something made out of clay into the oven, especially if it is a big sculpture. We gave it about a month to dry slowly and made sure that it had some holes so it could dry inside as well. I think it was like that but it has been a while and I'm not sure I remember it correctly. Now I just realised that I still haven't uploaded the photos of itxD I should finally do that
I have seen other artists using tin foil on the inside but I wouldn't have noticed it on your sculpture. After talking with you I want to do another sculpture but I will have to look for tutorials and more infos first. Fimo seems to be easier to use than the clay I used because you don't need a special oven. Super Sculpey looks very interesting as well.
Wow, that is as long time. I think I worked as long as this as well. It really takes a lot of time and patience

Nope, I'm pt bad at taking pictures and working with them. I know you can have a really nice results even with a phone camera, but I don't have enough experience and I don't really know how to make them look interesting.

Wow... I can't even. Like, this already looks better than those official figurines they're going to be selling, and all we've seen of those so far are 3D renders that are probably going to look better than the finished product. Plus, we'll probably never get one of the Walking Spoiler at all...
Oh... I made myself sad... Oh............

Ahh, thank you so much!!
Usually companies hire sculptors department to make a master-figure based on the model, and then they make molds, so if they'll have a good sculptor I'm sure they will have lovely figurines! I personally don't really like the style of that renders they showed, but that's just me.
And yeah, I don't think we'll get anything Asriel-related tbh, maybe just one of the Tarot cards, but at least people now can sell handmade Undertale stuff on conventions.

yeah I used to do a ton of clay and it's super hard to have something balancing like that unless you're a light-blue SOUL
(it's really easier to build a wire frame and build out from that)

Thank you!!
I'm planning on opening sculpture commissions, but I don't know when yet, need to practice a bit before that. Prices will depend on the size of figure and complexity. Probably somewhere around 45-60 for 2.5-3 inch figure.

With my materials I'm not able to make copies, but I'm planning on opening sculpture commissions, so people will be able to order pt much any character with any pose etc. :>
(still need to practice a bit before that and decide on prices)

you're welcome !!! that is absolutely a wonderful idea! you should go for it, you would be successful and rich! do you plan on creating more sculptures of additional characters from Undertale until then?

Akusuru In reply to SugarJoySpark [2016-04-12 00:15:23 +0000 UTC]
Haha I hope so!~ Thank you so much for your encouragement, I feel more confident now!
I plan on sculpting Sans and Chara for sure, and also I want to make Tails, but tbh I don't know which or how many of them I'll make before opening commissions. I just need to be sure that the quality of my figures is good enough and I can handle different techniques without any stress in the process.

GOOD, your sculpted work is incredibly talented and so good. it look like a official figure; in fact!! also, that's a wonderful idea! i can't wait to see all of those characters in that style; i truly look forward to them! i already have a good feeling that you'll be able to master those different techniques by the time you finish those figures ^o^ i got more questions; what do you use to make sculptures like are they made with certain figure-making clay? and do you use something to fill colors?

Akusuru In reply to SugarJoySpark [2016-04-13 15:47:41 +0000 UTC]
Thank you agan!
I use "Fimo professional Doll art" oven-bake clay, it has nice semitranslucent effect, which you can see on ears, and also it's very strong after it's properly baked. It's really nice to work with! For colors I just paint everything I need with acrylics (after baking the figure, sanding and degreasing the surface), but it is possible to mix colored clay to have colors you need and sculpt with them, so you'll need to paint only small details. (you can mix in some translusent clay for as well). For example that stand with flowers is made with yellow Premo Sculpey clay.
So there's plenty of options and it's nice to try everything and decide which methods are easier personally for you :>
