Description
Hoorray for the colorful70s, and screw the dull, grey modern times! (speaking of military jet scheme, of course). This (VF-1 "Wolf Pack") is beyond question one of my favorite Tomcat schemes ever, alongside the VF-2 "Bounty Hunters", VF-32 "Swordsmen" and VF-111 "Sundowners" (I am afraid that I am certainly bored with the VF-84 "Jolly Rogers", of which I've lately seen so many Tomcats lately ).
An F-14 Tomcat in 1/48th scale may be nothing new to many, but to me it is, considering the limited room that I have left at home. This makes my second largest jet kit in 1/48th scale by just a faint margin of a few millimeters after the RF-4E Phantom II that I built last year.
This kit was pretty basic and needed of a few improvements, namely the ejection seat handles, the rear view mirrors atop the canopy, and drilling open the flares panel to the tail tip. Other attempts at trying to make it more complex failed, like adding those retractile triangular winglets that early Tomcats had ahead of their wings, or cutting off the rear dorsal air-brake and make it moveable, as well as the tail horizontal stabilizers.
