Really nicely done, gives me faith that regular Super Sculpey can get the job done. Did you partial bake throughout the sculpt to retain the details? Can't imagine this is all done without any baking passes. But if it was... nice talent bud

Hi there, thanks for looking. I didn't bake as I went, I was just careful, though I did squish the odd detail from time to time. I did make each of the dreadlocks, applied them to the sculpture, then set them with a heat gun before fully baking them.

I also popped over to your page and had a look at the bust you have there. I look forward to seeing more work from you. In a time when artist are turning from traditions sculpting to digital, what's made you do the other way?

I've been reading about how to do this, but many things will remain a mystery until I dive in!

Fantastic work here. I take it there's quite a sophisticated armature under here? Does it go so far as to have a wire bone inside each of the tendrils of the mane?

And lastly, was the type all knife-sculpted or is there more to it?

Well, this one was actually sculpted over the top of an old resin copy of a Predator I did many years ago. I started with the idea of enhancing it a bit with sculpey, but ended up covering every bit of it. No wire inside the dreads.

I use various wax carving and dental tools to sculpt with.
