One evening, Lana got back from a cruise in and around the harbor near the campus with her Popplio and Lapras. As she hopped off, she glanced over and blinked when she saw Ash shirtless. As one might expect, she nearly screamed in sheer joy at this, but as she snapped out of it, she didn't want to admit it, but she'd been bitten by the love bug. A day later, she was finding it reasonably easy to resist telling Ash she had a crush on him, but the next day, one could tell that she wanted to find Ash. At last, Lana couldn't take it anymore.

So one morning, four days later, Lana went to tell Ash. However, Lana was surprised to find Ash fishing with Mallow. They weren't talking, but Lana asked, "Ash, may I speak with you?"

"Sorry, Lana," replied Ash, "Mallow and I are busy!"

Lana walked away feeling defeated. But after she disappeared, she couldn't stand to resist her "romance urge" any longer.

"I've had it," she said determinedly, "I don't care if Harper and Sarah make a fool outta me! I'm gonna try to date Ash if it's the last thing I do!"

And carrying her Popplio, Lana turned around and marched straight back to the dock.

"...Give up, Mallow," Ash laughed, "y'know I'll take home the most Magikarp!"

"Ash," Lana said, walking up to the Kanto Region Trainer, "I need to tell you something over there."

"It'll have to wait, Lana," Ash said, jumping to his feet and reeling in his catch, "I'm busy!"

Lana reached out and grabbed Ash's arm, startling him into releasing his rod.

"Huh?!" exclaimed Mallow, stunned.

"WHAT THE--?!!?" Ash Ketchum exclaimed, "why're you--"

"Right NOW," she said, "I need to tell you!"

Popplio hopped on her shoulder as Lana pushed past Mallow, hopped over the line of Krabby, and dragged Ash off the dock and he faced her.

"This had better be important," Ash said, worried, "you've been rather emotional lately!"

"I've been needing to tell you this for a while now," she said nervously, "but..."

Gulping, Lana, with a lump in her throat, confessed to the truth: "I love you, Ash," said Lana, "I think you're handsome, cute, fun, and funny!"

Ash smiled.

"You'll be happy to know that I love you, too, sweetheart," said Ash, "you're my #1, Lana!"

Lana and Ash hugged one another and walked away with Pikachu and Popplio.
