No, I just don't think you can 'love' them, you can like and care about them. For example some people genuinely want to cause the animal pain and have no care about it. Other do not mind killing and eating it, but wish to do so as humanly as possible. I just mean you cannot really 'love' something and kill it for pleasure. If you have a pet dog, you may like that dog maybe even love that dog, but not love 'animals' then eat them. I mean you cannot love a cow, then go kill and eat this cow, purely for pleasure. It comes down to how you define love I suppose. But we often say we love our, parents/children/wife/husband/partner we would not eat these people even if they tasted good. I know it is an extreme example, but it is still a point. I am not judging somebody because they choose to eat meet, but I do not believe you can love a animal and eat it for pleasure. I suppose; why do we eat meet, when there are alternatives? I'm guessing for pleasure, then it is a selfish act of killing an innocent being for pleasure, now if you are okay with that, then that is entirely up to you, but you cannot love the animal. That was my point.
I hope I didn't cause offence, just giving my opinion.

Well, it is true that if I ate a cow I am not going to love that particular cow. I never got to know that cow or spend time with it as if it were my pet. If I did have a pet cow, however, I'd love that cow and not eat it. Snakes are my favorite animals and I actually have a pet ball python, but if someone offered me snake as food, I'd try it. I'd try it because we a naturally omnivorous and are part of the food chain. Snakes will still be my favorite animal though, and I will continue to love my pet python.

Understandable. But this stamp is like somebody saying they love children. Then 'loving' their children, but being okay with using other children in slavery or something. It may sound like an extreme example, but it is the same point. I don't think somebody who is perfectly okay with killing and eating an animal for their own pleasure can really 'love' animals, I mean where do you draw the line, for example, why is your snake more important than said other snake? That's like me saying, I'd kill that guy down the road because I don't know or love him, but I'd never kill my best friend, at the end of the day, a life is a life.

[ I apologize for the extremely late reply... ]
But I doubt if someone makes an "I love children" stamp they will love some random kid they see walking down the street. Similarly, I doubt anyone who makes an "I love animals" stamp is going to love a random stray cat or dog they happen to see.
This stamp doesn't really have anything to do with intimacy, I am sure. When someone says they love children, they probably mean they love being around them and think they are fun. Like when I say I love animals, I mean I love to be around them, I think they are beautiful and fascinating, I think they are cute, etc.
The line drawn for humans and the line drawn for animals are at completely different levels. It is okay to kill an animal if you do it humanely and the animal isn't some endangered species or someone's pet. [ with a few exceptions, of course. ] You can use an animal for what you wish as long as the animal doesn't suffer and will live happily. While for a human, the only time it is okay to kill is for defense. It is not okay to use anyone as a slave either, and unlike animals, we have the right the choose what happens in our life. And if a life is a life, then why is it okay to eat plants? Those are living things. The reason it's okay is because there are ranks. Humans are the superior beings of the planet because of our ability to reason and are level of intelligence. Second ranked is animals. Animals are sentient and can feel pain, making them superior over plants.

(No problem.)
Lack of intelligence does not justify killing. That is like saying it is okay to kill somebody with a learning disability, but not an intelligent person because they are superior, or killing a child is fine but not an adult because an adult is more intelligence, I expect a dog has more intelligence than a baby but that does not make killing a baby right. What matters is that animals can suffer. In fact with intelligence their is a pattern, loss of innocents, why would taking a child's life be such a greater crime than an adults, innocents, something a pig is closer to than most people. Lets face it that an individual eats meet for pleasure, nothing more, thus it is selfish, my point was if you are willing to allow 'animals' to die for your pleasure then you cannot claim to 'love' animals. Like them yes, enjoy spending time around them sure, but not love, it is too stronger word.

That is true, but humans just are... superior over animals... it just the way it is. Not much fact I can give about that, just morals and such. Human > Animal. Human = Not okay to kill. Animal = Okay to kill. I get what you are saying though. I have thought about going vegetarian [ though I wouldn't go as far as being vegan ] but I grew up eating meat and it is just part of my everyday life; far too difficult to stop.
But I know that I love animals. I have a passion for them and you can not simply like something you are passionate about. Yes, love is a strong emotion but you must also realize that love is also a very complex emotion... and I am quite sure that the way I feel towards animals isn't just simply like, but yet I eat them.
I don't simply enjoy spending time with them, I love spending time with them.

PandaNotes In reply to OnyxBetta [2015-06-09 14:05:56 +0000 UTC]
That is not really a fair answer, humans cannot be superior for no good reason asides society. I think in our culture we are just numbed by life to think eating animals is just an 'okay' thing to do, simply because we are told it is.
Yes, I understand if you grow up eating meet giving it up sound really hard, but actually it just becomes normal, I grew up on meet, I loved the stuff, but when I decided to give it up, I just did and never looked back. In my opinion if you can't give up eating meet then that is just weak, besides there are lots of alternatives that make it easier these days.
I understand that you obviously have a passion for 'some' animals. But I think this stamp suggests that you love 'animals' as a whole, which I'm sorry if you eat them you just can't 'love' them. It's more like a in the olden days a rich man may exploit poor children but love his own child, now that man may well love his child, but he cannot claim to love 'children', if you see my point.

I love eating meat. Second I see it as a complete waste of a food resource; it's not going to bring the animal back if anything your letting the meat go to waste which is feels like an insult.

So if you thought it was healthy, you'd go vegan? Meat, eggs and dairy are not actually good for you, as they're high in cholesterol, which can cause heart problems among other things. Vegan diets, on the other hand, include lots of fruit and vegetables, grains, nuts and legumes - all foods doctors and nutritionists recommend we eat lots of.
I also don't take any supplements unless a) I'm ill, which is rare, or b) I feel that I've been eating unhealthily that day.

Of course it's your decision, but the choice to eat meat harms animals. What makes dogs so special? Did you know pigs are more intelligent than dogs in some ways? All animals feel fear and pain, just like wolves and dogs.
I'm vegan because I don't think I have the right to pay for people to kill animals just for my pleasure. I also don't see why you'd pay to have some animals abused while loving others. Don't you think that's a bit of a double standard?

Actually I drink vegan milk. I drink rice dream and silk milk. What makes dogs special is that they are companions. I agree that they should inject cows and pigs with painkillers. The reason why I eat cows and pigs (well all you cows can keep your milk because I dont want it) is because its a natural food. And it has protein. Too much meat can be bad. But I eat both meat and veggies together. Dont worry cows you can keep ur milk ok.

It is possible to quickly kill a chicken without it suffering and then eat it rather than making it live an unhealthy and miserable life in a cage , not seeing the day of light and then killing it the cheapest way not caring about how it hurts to the chicken . Most people rant about hunting (and I mean hunting for actual food , sport hunting and/or fur hunting are despicable ) but then eat a steak ignoring how the cow was treated , and sadly in most of the farms they are beaten , killed with painful methods , mutilated and also not having their diseases treated as long as they don't affect the meat . Meanwhile a wild dear had a full life and in most of the cases dies quickly . I know that some species are hunted constantly and they are endangered (and we should protect ) but they at least had a life which some cows could have if they lived in a good farm and were treated properly .

Thank you for this! I have always been an animal lover, which is why I went into Biology. But as a scientist, I also know objective facts about the Natural world and its processes. Eating other animals is part of the food-chain, and without meat human beings would not have developed their considerable brains (which can be seen as a good or bad thing, that's another debate). In fact, the brainiest animals are often omnivores, just like us. You can eat meat and treat the animal it came from with respect and humanity. I am against over-farming and its very negative environmental impacts, I am against battery-farming, and cruel treatment of livestock. Nothing justifies it. On the contrary, we should be grateful to the beings who will feed us, and give us leather, cloth, and other products. But I am not against eating meat as such. One could argue that with vegetable proteins, we could possibly do away with meat altogether. Maybe that's true. But eating meat is not inherently evil: mistreating the animals we rear for meat is.

I have three dogs that I love dearly and take care of every day, and I love animals and entirely support animal welfare. I eat meat (and love it), have a fox tail, a mink tail, and a turtle shell (I can assure you it was all humanely hunted), and I'm planning on getting my hunting permit. If doing these things make me an "EVIL HOOMAN!11!!" than I'd rather be an ANIMWOO ABOOSER!!111!! than a psychotic animal fucker. I really do love animals, and I'm sure there are people who practice the things I do that love animals with all their hearts.
