Description
I never played the original Link's Awakening as I've only really played the 3D Zelda games, and loved them. So, getting the Switch remake of Link's Awakening was a no brainer. It's a fantastic game and I've always wanted to make something using the models from it. Unfortunately, no one had ported them to XNALara Posing Studio that I was aware of which had me a little confused. Since it's been a good three of four years since I last ported anything, and having then been unable to port anything with bones without some assistance, I enlisted the services of WOLFBLADE111 to try and port Link's model that I'd found available for SFM. He was unable to port the model, as some bits were showing up and others weren't, so I decided to try and port the models myself as I had a feeling I knew what the issue was (I didn't!). Since I didn't have SFM installed, and couldn't be bothered to download it again as it would take forever, I went in search of an alternate source of the original models and found them on the Models Resource. To my surprise, they were incredibly easy to port to XPS from there with noesis, and the bones all functioned! I even created a few custom textures to add metallic maps to the models for that little extra layer of polish. With the models ported, I needed some scenery. Nothing from Link's Awakening was available, so I went in search of something vaguely similar that I could get away with. That's when I found a bunch of Dragon Quest sceneries by wadamen . However, the download link no longer worked. Fortunately, WOLFBLADE111 still had the models and was kind enough to share them with me. Finally, I had to quickly port a bunch of additional items to really tie everything together and try and portray areas from Dragon Quest as Koholint Island, so I went in search of a mountain, the Wind Fish's egg and used some cloud models that I've had kicking around for ages and worked that into the scene.
The original plan for this scene was to have Link protecting Marin from an attacking Moblin, but I couldn't find a way to compose the scene properly featuring all three characters. Every configuration I tried just didn't look right, so I opted to omit the Moblin.
All three character models I ported from Link's Awakening are available to download from the links below!
