Description This attempt at finishing her didn't go as well as I'd hoped. Colored pencil is pretty unforgiving when it comes to mistakes, and I made a few. The shading under the cape was supposed to be more subtle. Chalk this one up to a learning experience. This is my third figure drawing in this media, and the second of Power Girl.

I used Prismacolor Lightfast colored pencils and Copic markers and blender to render her, along with a Tombow blender. Caran D'Ache graphite pencils were used for the grey in the costume. Copic Wide marker was used to fill in the background, with colored pencil filling in the area around her. Polychromos pencils were used on the rope. They tend to break less, and are better for sharpening to a point. Drawn on Canson 5.5" by 8.5" sketch paper, which has its limits, and I've reached them. Time for better quality paper.

Colored pencils are great for blending, and they are real fun to use. Just be patient, and you can minimize mistakes like the ones I made. Build your layers of color gradually to get subtle tones. The sharper your point, the more intense your application of color will be, when the pencil is perpendicular to your paper. This will allow you to spread the pigment deeper into the paper, making it easier to put another layer of color on top.

Hope you enjoyed these tidbits of info!
