Description
A ceiba tree in the cloud forest of Valle Escondido in Costa Rica. These trees are the towering giants of the forest and can grow to 70 metres (230 feet) or more in height. They have very straight trunks, usually with hardly any branches, and are topped by a huge, spreading canopy of branches and leaves. Massive buttress roots give them their stability - see:
