Description Last week marked the passing of Dr. Leonard P. Annectens, departmental lungfish at the University of Bristol School of Earth Sciences. He first arrived at the university in 2004 and had become a well-loved faculty member ever since.

I only became personally acquainted with Leonard during the last year of his life, but I've been a longtime follower of his scientific work. Though largely unresponsive except towards the prospect of food, he was undoubtedly brilliant, having published papers in prestigious journals such as Nurture and Journal of Vertebrate Palaeobolony and successfully predicted the outcome of several World Cup matches. He will be missed.

Edit: His formal obituary has been published .

I saw him recently, when I was visiting Bristol to see if it were suitable for my own future studies. I had hoped to meet him again, but avast, such a fine fellow could not be long for this world. I met him but once, and he was an inspiration- in his memory I shall join their league. Rest in peace, and may flights of shrimp take thee to thy rest.

That's unfortunate, but glad you got to meet him once before he passed.
