How is Undertale bland?

If any game have grafics, what would makes me look as the most hardcore pixel artist, the game grafics isn't really great(especially because I can't animate at all).Β However I have my doubts about that Undertale would be a cult game without the very primitive scenery.

Graphics aren't using much of any shading, and thus no hue-shifting to make the world stand out. Many of the tiles are just a single flat color (especially some of the walls, where there aren't any details identified, just one flat solid color), and so it looks like something out of a children's coloring book. Β I can get simple art styles, but this is beyond simple. Β I've seen better looking 8-bit games.
