Description
Kindlestar's assignment for::iconthe-warrior's-guild:
Based on an RP with Tam~ There is a very important announcement here concerning a certain squared equation, but you may need to read to find out. ;D
The struggles of FireClan had not gone unnoticed. A starry form padded easily across the top of the cliff, watching as cats scrambled up the slick rocks, yowling to one another as the wind buffeted them. The starry cat was not focused on them though, his eyes followed a limp figure being tossed about beneath the waves further down the gorge. With easy bounds he followed it till even his eyes could no longer see her, then with a final bound he vanished.
“Kindlestar. Wake up,” his voice echoed in the dark mist that surrounded them. The ghost-like shadows of cats could be seen flitting just out of sight through the mist, stars glittering in their pelts, but only one stood close to the young leader- a familiar tom she had known all her life.
Black whiskers twitched as the ginger she-cat suddenly felt her name being called. As slowly as she had felt the life being drained out of her body, she was slowly beginning to regain focus. Air did not seep through her lungs... in this place she now lay at there was no need for such things. However, she could feel a cold, solid surface beneath her, a simulation of ground, so to speak, that enabled her and the owner of the voice that now called her to move around with ease in this dim, starry place. Finally, after what seemed like hours in this timeless domain, the small cat stirred, yellow eyes opening reluctantly and getting used to the oddly dim and bright light of the place.
"W-where..." Kindlestar rasped incoherently, unsure of where she was or what she was doing here.
Then suddenly, as quick as lightning it hit her. The flood. Her Clan. Her mate.... and her drowning. Desperately looking around, Kindlestar got up in a flash, her gaze landing on Russetfur's.
"You! What are you doing here? Am I... did I... How did... Russetfur... what is going on?"
His face remained solemn as he stepped toward her, “You are losing a life Kindlestar. Your clan is safe though, you may rest easy,” he meowed. “When you awake again you will face a time of considerable trial but you will pull through this as long as you remain strong. Your clan will never lose faith in you,” he purred, a smile breaking through his solemn expression at last.
Kindlestar remained quiet as she absorbed what Russetfur had just said. She had lost a life... Yes, this made sense. She could still remember the ache in her lungs as they desperately cried out for air that never came. But her Clan... how could she be sure that they were safe?
"Trial? My Clan is in shambles, Russetfur. Our trial began the moment DawnClan's rogues entered the forest," Kindlestar spat out angrily, her ears flattened.
After glaring at her old friend for a moment, she sighed, knowing that DawnClan's creation had nothing to do with the events that she had in her paws now. She closed her eyes, attempting to calm herself and ignore the murmurs and rustling noises surrounding them, as well as the soft mewling of kits that seemed to be closer than the rest.
"I am sorry, I shouldn't have yelled at you," she finally apologized as she looked back up at Russetfur. "I need to go back, Russetfur! I need to help my clanmates. The flood! I need to know that they are all okay. Have they made it to the top of the gorge? And what of Twopelt? If something happens to him, I-" she rambled, finally stopping as she realized she couldn't make herself finish that sentence.
Russetfur flicked his ear and sighed, stepping forward to press his starry forehead to hers, "Kindlestar when I tell you your clan is safe I mean it. They are safe. Give them all a little faith, they're FireClan after all, a little water can't quench the flame in their hearts," he purred stepping back again.
"And when I said you will face a trial I meant you. Not the clan. Though when you do get back to them I suggest you make room for yourself in the nursery," he added with a grin spreading over his face, whiskers pressed forward, "because you're expecting." He didn't give her any time to respond after that comment though as both their forms began to shimmer. "You'll be waking up soon Kindlestar but don't worry and stay strong. Your clan believes in you," with another smile as her vision began to give way he purred, "And this is the last time you see me like this. Ever," and then he was gone.
Kindlestar narrowed her eyes momentarily at his first words, his grin confusing her, wondering why she would need to make room for herself in the nursery when it hit her. Her eyes grew wide as her jaw dropped. She was expecting? Her? How could she be... okay, maybe she knew how... but what of the kits?
She had just lost a life, and she was pregnant... would the kits be alright? Suddenly the mewling kits that she kept hearing in the background were no longer annoying, distracting background noise. They were calls she couldn't help but turn to, cries of kits asking for their mother as they lay as confused as she was. Unborn kits in the transition of a leader losing her life. Kindlestar turned her gaze and for a moment she could see a whisp of clouds and stars surrounding her and an overwhelming surge of empathy threatened to overtake her.
They must feel so lost...
Russetfur's voice broke her out of her thoughts, however, and she turned back to face him, realizing that he was once more vanishing before her eyes. He was saying goodbye. Once more he was telling her that he had to go, but this time, she was going with him. His last words worried her, and as he vanished alongside her, a painful sensation once more overcame her as oxygen broke through her strained lungs once more. She was back... soaking wet and confused, but back among the living.
"What do you mean that was the last time I would see you like that?" she rasped as she gingerly got up, her body evidently having washed up on a place that looked so much like FireClan yet lacked the familiar scents of her home. "You better show up again... you hear me Russetfur. I refuse for that to be... that just can't be our last goodbye."

OMIGOSH!
This is beautiful, Tammeh! (Can I call you Tammeh? ಠ_ಠ)
Is it just me or did Kindles' markings get lighter?
I love the story btw, it fits the pic perfectly.
Just like the texture of the canvas, it's gorgeous!

Thank you so much. ;v; Yes, yes you can call me Tammeh. XD
And her markings are lighter in this image, yes. That was me attempting to make it look like she was fading away... I think I may have gone a bit lighter than intended. XD
I love that texture, and I rarely get to use it so fittingly.

There's this dutch saying, which roughly translates means:
'Behind each disadvantage lies a positive advantage.'
It sounds cooler in dutch.
