So perhaps King James manages to hold onto Ireland?....not entirely impossible, he had to do a lot of dealings with the native Irish parliament which managed to wrangle a lot of notional concessions from him i.e. Poynings Law abolished, abolition of the "established" church' privileges i.e. freedom or at least religious toleration.
Maybe if William and Mary weren't sure they could hold onto England or that military invasion of Ireland was too uncertain or expensive Jimmy might have held on to an Irish thrown by fluke.
* btw even the Irish weren't that fond of James ~ Catholic or not, his Irish-Gaelic nickname translates as "Jimmy the Shit"
