Taken in Costa Rica. This butterfly is a male of the species Myscelia cyaniris , the females are significantly less iridescent.Related content

No, though I have seen this species in the wild many times, this was taken at a butterfly garden I used to manage in Costa Rica. Generally in the wild they aren't quite so vibrant because they lose scales quickly. (hope that doesn't ruin it for you!)

Actually no, that makes me feel better! My butterfly photos are taken in a Butterfly Conservatory and I thought: "Man if they can get pictures like this down in Coast Rica out in the wild, I'm just gonna die!" So, see, you saved me! LOL!
