Description
Mike Mignola, s Hellboy in his adventures met many interesting and an usual historical character. In this illustration I put Him together with Djorde Petrovic Karadjordje (Black George, this is the nickname his enemies βTurks gave to him). Karadjordje was leader of Serbian people in his fight for liberation from the Turkish tyranny et year 1804. And he vas very original and interesting historical personality who has everything that one comic book character should have.I make this illustration traditionally with pen and ink on paper and then colored it with Photoshop.

From what I read about him, Karadjordje is Serbia's William Wallace. Few countries have founders even a third as badass.

Now, your intentions are clearly not exposing your "art". If they were, you would not be insulting the ancestry of a whole nation now would you? You, as can be seen from the text, havent even bothered to attempt to use politically correct language, which could have made it tolerable, but you disregarded the use of it on purpose. The the Republic of Turkey lies in no way in the continuum of the Ottoman Sublime State's heritage. Ottoman Sublime State have "Ottomans" for citizens, not Turks, comparing it to how "United States of America" relates to the term "American" would be a just analogy. Not even the family in power was purely Turkish, nor did they care to identify themselves as so. The Turks, while being COMPLETELY hybrid in terms of blood relations, are the citizens of the Republic of Turkey from 1923 and on.
If it was your art you were trying to expose and not your political views or racist grudges, I am sorry to inform you that you miserably failed that goal, since as you can see, I would not be making this comment on your "artwork" if the text was properly constructed. Any claim that almost anyone else managed to overlook this "little" detail is because it means little to them, not me, which only proves you again failed to get the message through, univerally. I have nothing against the text if you substitute Ottoman for Turk, however i do believe there will be many who will have a problem with that, so its best that you alter it. That is, if you want your work to be criticised/assesed/evaluated universally and unbiased.
Thank you for the time you took to read this.

Iam sorry you feel offended by the description of the illustration but the simple fact is that our folk poetry, generated during the 300 hundred years of ,as you state "Ottoman empire", refers to the conquerors as Turks. You may want to disassociate yourself with the force that had its hand in imposing such terrible tyranny, and I cant blame you, but the several hundred year old heritage say otherwise. So while you speak from a position of someone that has only learned about these times from a book, and it should be clear to you that history can be rewritten, this epic poems, represent a testimony directly out of the mouth of someone that actually lived back then.

First of all let me add, i tried to be as neutral as a Turkish guy can be, it was not my primary intention to *defend* my nation while writing my response. It is perfectly clear to me that history can indeed be rewritten. That is the exact reason I don't believe krap about history, they are just epic stories that are fun to hear. However, it is a *fact* that ottomans never called themselves as "Turks". I am not disassociating myself of anything, as I was never associated. I will not recant my opinion, however i may revise, I was not aware that you associated your illustration with a poem, still, that language used is not a direct extract nor a quotation from the poetry and as acceptable it is that once upon a time that statement may be indeed valid(its validity is irrelevant), it is only contemporary and should be updated throughout time accordingly. Otherwise it may lead to misunderstandings, such as this one. The word "Ottoman" refers to the Turkish ancestry of that time, not Turkish. I hope I made myself clear, and I sure as hell dont want any hard feelings if you believe these messages are disturbing, i can gladly hide mine.

I beg to differ on your historical remark there.
The Turkish government didnt even exist back then. It was the Byzantines or the Ottoman empire that had the power. And it wasnt a tyranny until Murad who was actually more like a dictator than a tyrant.

For some reason, the style it's in reminds me of Alfredo Castelli.
He made Martin Mystery, and not the animated show.

Thank You. Iβm glad that this illustration reminds you of classic novel illustration because I like that kind of illustration a lot especially illustrators like Rockwell, Dulac, Coll, Flag etc.
If my illustration reminds someone even bit of them Iβm happy.

WOW, that is brilliant - I love the coloring and the drawing is spectacular. I've just begun getting into the whole "drawing it on paper - coloring it in Photoshop" deal, and, it's great, but none of mine have turned out quite as nice as yours!
