Something you should try on XP (BTW I use Windows 7)
1. Paste this picture into Paint and save it as a BMP named "startup"(without the quotes).*
2. Put it into C:/Windows
3. Use the activate.reg (also put it into C:/Windows) from PeterRollar's Windows8 RTM Bootup for XP**
4. Reboot.
Did the Vista orb appear?
