I'm back! Hehehe. xD
So much for the haitus. XP

First I want to say thankyou to who spent a long time with me in front of the PC and watched me paint this piece and that he took time to discuss the concept idea with me before I even started it.

I've had a picture like this in my head for a little while. I wanted to create a scene which symbolizes the bond between the girl called Lumri and the Plant Spirit.
Both are completely different yet they belong together.

Defiance of the Shadow shows the earthy and untouched forest, which is yet protected by the nature of the plant spirit whilst the lethal hand of humankind forces the forests to give way.
I had to create a final design for Lumri, which took me a while because I couldn't make up a good face for her. In the end, I thought that my youngest sister has the perfect look which fits to the character of Lumri.
The young and childlike shape of the face yet the concentrated eyes were very important aspects which made me choose my sister as a reference for Lumri.

Also, I think it's a good choice since I almost see myself when I was a little child and had dreams like those. :3

This was also a piece I used to experiment a lot with. For example I adujsted every single brush myself which has been used for this picture and I think I will use them more often.
I hope you like it! :3

Photoshop, Wacom
25 hours
I offer prints of this picture. Note me if you're interested. :]

The Plant Spirit is Β© 2008 Claudya Schmidt aka AlectorFencer. Please do not copy, alter or redistribute!

:::EDIT:::
Thanks to the lovely BobTodd who gave me amazingly good critique on that picture, I decided to edit it. The full credit for the idea of editing it and how to do it goes to BobTodd
Thank you so much! <3

wow this piece is gorgeous and the detail and brush work really shows how much work you've put into this!
I love the concept, it's so sad that it reflects the world we live in today, so much beauty destroyed to make way for factories. I love the intense look of Lumri, her expression is perfect for this.
Beautiful work!

ok this must be like the image i've waited for so long. it has got EVERYTHING. first, i love wolves,i adore them and here we got one that seems to be the reincarnation of the nature or even a kind of god,it's amazing.he tries to protect the forest and the whole world from the humans. and then we have that little child ( a human being xD) which is on teh side of the forest and nature. she's like the last human wanting the nature to be alive... yeah and then of course the intimidating human's world in the background with all it's violence and bad atmosphere. the atmosphere in the forest is more...clear somehow, without the pollution in the air and with thise bright colours but yet it's all so mysterious ans you can see that it won't last forever.. and those little lights there around the wolf plant and teh girl are...so stunning.. i don't know, i guess they're in the middle of the forest, the last peaceful place on earth and only there we have those lights in teh air...aghhh this is the beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeest piece of art in my favourite list on deviantart, and ...yeah...it's gorgeous...

I am very envious of this work, for it is a masterpiece in it's own, done by an extraordinary artist with an amazing talent and eye. That artist is you. Detail upon detail, every line forms unison with the color in which it was manipulated in. The concept of nature is combined with the pollution of mankind, and how the world we live in today is coming to an end as the pollution draws nearer and nearer to what we have already destroyed. To me, the Plant Spirit resembles the protector of all the creatures that dwell within the depths of the forest. And the girl Lumri is by the Plant Spirits side, with a sorrowful look at the forest's close ending of time, she knows deep down from within, that even the Plant Spirit cannot withstand the cruel reality of man's carelessness upon the world. β™₯

Truly inspirational and beautiful piece of work. I enjoyed comenting on it, and I hope that you may create many more like this one.

Wow, you have no clue how much this piece has touched me... Truly, This symbolizes our world today and how much of our forests and natural life is being demolished by 'human life'. I truly wish there were some spirits like that out there that could openly protect our earthen forests from destruction.
