"To Todd Mc Caffrey, the Lord of Pern."This book was a commission by Michael K., the chairman of Rustycon as a gift to their Guest of Honour, Todd Mc Caffrey, who is the author of "Dragonheart" and "Dragonriders of Pern".
Since it was a surprise, I had to wait until it got handed to Mr. Caffrey. Apparently the surprise was a big success!
The book is my biggest book-project I have done so far. It's a book completely made from scratch and has hand bound and hand dyed A3 sheets to give it a worn and ancient look, book corners, a full leather cover, a hand-painted glass eye surrounded by modelled Sculpey.
It was truly one exciting project for me and I can't wait to work on the next.
Which one shall it be?

I've spoken to Todd a few times when he has visited AggieCon... what a wonderful man. And a fantastic gift! My mother was a bookbinder, she would have loved it as well.

True, Todd did not write the Dragon Riders of Pern books, however Todd is working and having his mother's entire works republished in electronic form and hard and soft back form again. The project is a daunting one. My commissioned gift to him was to continue to inspire him to write and continue his work on republishing the Pern series so that future generations can enjoy the stories we have come to love.
Todd has informed me that whereas the Lord of Pern book is truly an amazing work of art, he will not be basing the book in Pern. He told me that the book will be central to a new story he envisioned while at RustyCon. Now whether this will be a short story or a series that deals with this book, we will have to wait and see.

The book is a stunning gift. I do feel compelled to point out that Todd did not, however, write The Dragonriders of Pern, which were published in the 60-80's by his mother,Β Anne McCaffrey.

Oh my... Anne McCaffrey's books' impact still ripples on my life to this day.
All kinds of feelings come from seeing you, with the place your art has in my heart now, honoring such a piece of my past that way.

Gosh, all of these book covers remind me of the series the Dragon Chronicles, which has a (paperback) cover with a picture of a dragon's eye on it. It would be really interesting to see one of those covers made like these. They're beautiful.Β

This is just way more than awesome. Todd and Anne McCaffery are wonderful authors and have created an extremely wonderful series. This is really cool, I love it.
