Man, I really love that expression~ So open to possibilities...
The fox looks like an adult but one who has the innocence and imagination of a child. And his reaction to the vision brought on by the story looks to me like he is revisiting a familiar place and time for which he has a special fondness.
A picture really is worth a thousand words, and you have rendered mine inadequate. :3

I adore foxes. They're my favorite animal~. Mostly arctic foxes and fennec foxes.
I took a furry quiz once, and when it said I was probably best for the Vulpes (fox) family I was so happy~! I can't find the quiz now though, I wish I could...
Anyway, this drawing is lovely. You capture the beauty and elegance of the red fox perfectly.
