I admire how even a fairly loose painterly style like yours can be executed to seem close to a professional level. You're just amazing whether or not you are a professional/have a career in this area!
When painting, do you use a custom brush or one of the default brushes? I know varying the flow, opacity, etc., matters too, but I'm just curious as an amateur digital painter.

i do both! most of the time i'm using a slightly modified hard round brush (for about 90% of the image), then some custom brushes, for example to render hair, special effects, etc.
for environment i've got a set of different basic brushes i use, + a whole lot of custom brushes (clouds, textures, plants, etc)
