  Some say he is a former nobleman who went bankrupt or fell out of favor with his suzerain, and the scarf is some kind of family heirloom. One is sure it is the scarf of his beloved, who is either missing or dead. Others believe the scarf is magical and brings good luck. He ignores or foolishly guffaws at all questions about it.
  Despite all this mystery, many have come to appreciate his expertise with the sword and shield. So soon everyone began to call him simply, "Scarf."
