Whoaaa that looks awesome! Props to you for using a video to sort out some of the details; just as with regular painting, it is such an invaluable tool to us artists. I really love her little head nod at the beginning, and the way the reflections glide along her body. Also, not sure why, but the shape of those flukes just looks so good haha. I'm also super impressed that you did all this with actual pencil and paper.
The only thing I might suggest is making the framerate a bit higher, so the animation goes by quicker? Right now she's jumping a bit in slow-mo. Unless of course you did this on purpose so we can appreciate all the wonderful details

Thank you! The reflection and water movement worked much better than I anticipated lol
the frame rate is a bit slow but the online gif-maker I did this version in wouldnt cycle through them any faster, so I'll blame that and the fact I was too lazy to try something else. I plan on adding more scenes and editing in all in a video editing software so I can adjust it to be a little more accurate.

Haha, wonderful isn't it, when things go right by accident? : p
Ahh alright that explains it. Another option, if you have it, is photoshop. For me it gets a little freaky with huge animations, but with smaller stuff it's very good at making gifs with the exact wanted frame rate etc

Wow, the realism of the frames is amazing, great work here, it's so smooth and natural looking.

Very fluid, great stuff. How many frames did this take? I can’t imagine how complex it is.

45! I wanted to colour them all originally, but I don't think that's going to happen LOL. New plan is to do a little stripe across the middle with colour, and see if that looks at all cool

Dang, props to you for that. The most I ever dared to try was 10.
Coloring them seems plausible, so long as it is a flat color pass. Lighting/shading would be a nightmare.

This is for a fine art based drawing class, so semi accurate lighting and shading would probably be much better for my mark!
Monochromatic is also an option.. but that's just not as fun!

Indeed.
There are a few ceta animations around DA that have been done in various styles. Perhaps they could serve as reference?

This is really really nice! It’s so smooth and the head movement at the beginning is incredibly lifelike. I can’t imagine how hard it is to animate whales. This looks lovely.

I watched a video pretty carefully so that certainly helped lol, I dont think on my own I would even think about little nuances like that.
Thank you!
