Description These next few photos are part of a series I titled: "Extinguished Essence" This is the first one and two more to follow in this series.

I was going to submit these to the "Still Life" catagory but I figured people looking for the "Horror and Macabre" might appreciate these more.

Feedback appreciated!

Excellent work, I really like this one! I've realized a similar ambience in my bedroom but the skull is a pathetic plastic false, and with a strawed crow and an old oil lamp.

Reminds me of those oldish movies with the wizards or witchs in them.
I like it!

i cant believe i didnt comment on this yet... It is fantastic! it is perfect! the lighting and placement of the objects all fits so perfectly together. Especially the lighting on the skull, how it sorta outlines the shapes (damn i cant find the words here...)

Im impressed you could get the smoke to looks so clear also, it really adds to the atmosphere, the moment...

I dotn normaly care much for still life type photos, but this one i like very much, its like a scene out of classic horror.

what an elegant image! the objects and the composition overall is breathtaking. the stark use of light adds to the atmosphere along with the clever use of b&w...

I think this is the best composition of all three. In this one the watch looks like it might be part of the scene naturally, whereas the other two watch placements feel a little forced. Nothing glaring or ugly, mind you.

I love this series. And I'll say it again, this one is my favorite.

Good job.

Ah, yeah I see what you mean with the watch placement. I'll have to keep that in mind for next time when doing placements!

And I do agree with everyone saying that this is the best of the 3! I have to say though I'm getting more used to my camera and the settings and I'll be practicing even more.

Thanks for critique!

Keep up the good work. I can't wait to see what you do next.

Next time you should include a cats skull....muwahahaha!

...just kidding...

...don't kill me...

Aleuranthropy In reply to theamazingtumnus [2006-10-19 22:11:40 +0000 UTC]

Actually I do have a cat skull, dog, ram, squirrel, and the human ones of course.

I didn't kill any animals (or humans!) to get them they were all found. The ram skull was bought at a shop in Montana, and the human skulls were bought from eBay.

Human skulls on eBay...hmmm...sounds so iffy to me...that would be an efficient way for a serial killer to dispose of body parts...

Well, if you're not being haunted by the former resident of the skull, I guess you're free and clear.
