A fun drawing of Gyra Blackwell and her friend, Sab. Sab is a shape-shifter, she normally spends most of her time as a cat like creature. But this is pretty close to her natural form. For a Sabber, she's pretty small (she's young) Normally her tail is fur free, but Gyra looked cold, and she wants to keep her little elf healthy.
Gyra's bloody, again...I like drawing her this way XD

The two are bound by a blood contract engraved into Gyra's flesh by Sab's mother. Saber venom is nasty, it contains digestive enzymes that break down tissues for easier consumption. In order to form a contract, the contractor must survive the ordeal by venom. Their shape shifting ability means that they can pick and choose the route of administration. Saber's rarely ask for contractor volunteers and try likely candidates whenever they find them. A few centuries ago; it was considered a great honor to be chosen by a Saber; but now the creatures are viewed with suspicion and fear.

Before they found Gyra, the Saber vetted at least 15 other people.

Gyra bears the scars of the ordeal on her arms. The toxins rendered the tissue fragile and prone to cracking. She keeps them covered with arm bands and bandages.
Since the two were bound together, they formed a mind link. It allows telepathic communication within a certain radius. Sab (the unimaginative name that the girl came up with for her strange companion when strung out on blood loss) has become the best friend that Gyra never asked for. If you don't believe that it would be beneficial to have a shape-shifting best friend, then I don't know what to say to you XD

Gyra, herself, is a changeling child. Her elven family came under attack during the Magic wars. In order to keep her safe, her parents disguised her as a human and left her in the care of a human family. A kindly couple who owned a book shop and a small farm. They had a small daughter of their own. Gyra never knew she was adopted until the disguise enchantment started to wear off.

Just found out about the idea of warm up sketches (which this was). They're supposed to help your drawings flow better, but I ended up liking the sketch so I finished it in monochrome XD So about 3 hours?
