Description There are a lot of applications like Gehrunnerjunge 2.0 or Shut Off to change the default look of the "Turn Off" dialog, but I prefer to change the original msgina.dll and shel32.dll bitmaps. This is absolutely safe method and besides, you do not have to place the additional "Turn Off" button at the place where it should not be.

The pack includes:

- shell32 bitmaps - 14354, 14355 and 14356 (a bit modified Windows XP original buttons);
- msgina bitmaps - 20142, 20143 and 20143 (a bit modified Windows XP original buttons);
- modified shell32.dll and msgina.dll (for Windows XP SP3)*;
- manual.

*Use the modified dll's just in case if you are sure what to do.

To change the bitmaps you need a free application Resourse Hacker .

Better to replace bitmaps than the shell or msgina.dll files. Windows Update keeps replacing the shell32 file cause it is not the latest one, and it is not safe to turn off Automatic Updates and leave your computer vulnerable. This has happened with Service Pack 2 and 3

Yes, I know. Replacing the bitmaps is far better, but at the same time takes much more time.

Well what i was saying is that Windows Update replaces the shell32.dll back to it's original state, not the msgina.dll as far i know. I replaced the bitmaps using the original shell32.dll and don't have any problems with it. Basically a Service Pack 3 or 2 issue.

Yes, i know about that. To say fairly, the less and less people use XP these days. So, this bitmaps lose their actuality.

Yes that is true. But XP won't disappear completely yet. In fact you would be surprised how many still use XP Not everybody including me can afford to upgrade right now. So i go with what works.

I use it myself at my work. We have there some older PCs (not enough specs for Win 7) and we use XP on them.

I will stick with Windows XP at least till August of 2014 when most support will end. That will be a sad day though. Microsoft should be criticized for screwing up XP in the first place with Service Pack 2 and 3, before that i never had any problems with it.

Yes, I never had the problems with XP as well. But, it's time to change the PC and OS.
