Description Here is the first rendered pass of an animation I worked on a while back that I'm prepping for a demo reel. I figured I'd post it for feedback.

The dialogue clip is from The Big Bang Theory.

Hello there, awesome animation man, I love cartoony stuff like this and this is well executed as far as some feedback and critique, I'll start from the beginning. First thing that I thought could be improved is the pose at 2 seconds. He looks very off balanced, and I understand you were probably pushing the pose for a better line of action perhaps but I think you could definitely bring his COG back a little to have his weight over his legs and make it a little more believe-able. Also, the wrist at 2 seconds as it comes down into the pose seems to pop/break in mid air. At 4 seconds, I think you could pay a little more attention to how the hands pulls off the surface of the body. Let the fingers drag just a little rather than have the hand pull out in mid air, look exactly as it did whilst on the surface, and the move into its next pose. It gives the character a sense of realism since you add that contact between surfaces in. The pose at 10 seconds when he's saying stop, the waist looks like it should be rotated up the other way, with the leg that is being lifted. Also, as he leans forwards, I think he moves a little too much onto his right, the opposite way of the foot his standing in, and I think the foot in the air should come down a little sooner to catch his weight. This pose also has what appears like a frozen hand pose on his left hand. At 14/15 seconds, when he is delivering his line and proceeds to move his arms upwards, both arms are led by the wrist. This looks especially awkward on his right hand, but both could be fixed. Even for just a few frames, you should let the elbow/forearm lead the action as they would in real life, because those joints have muscles that work together to allow the wrist to lead its way above you head. Since he is tensing, there should be a lot of drag on the wrist, but I definitely think the elbow should lead the action rather than wrist. Last but not least, on the following action of the wrists going down (same things as before, let the elbows lead the way and let the wrist with the bottle drag behind as the mechanically would in real life) you should adjust the arcs of the actions. The right wrist especially seems to come down into the next pose virtually in straight line which isn't very appealing. Since its a tense actions, maybe have a slight arc rather that a large one, but definitely let it arc if not if looks like you added no in-between and just let the rig from point A to point B without making any adjustments. These are all minor things I saw, but its the little things that allow you to completely polish an animation. The overall feel of the animation in my opinion is fantastic, no big problems, so I went through and tried to pick out little things, to help you out. Sorry for the long critique, but I do enjoy critiquing and seeing other animations because I really feel it helps me improve. Cheers bro and keep animating

Wow, thanks for taking the time to write out such an in depth critique. Sorry it took me so long to get back to you, but this is really helpful. I definitely agree with your points, I made this one a while ago so I've been trying to avoid mistakes like the ones you mentioned. I will keep this in mind when working on future stuff.

No worries and you're more than welcome, the animation was definitely and enjoyable watch. There are so many things to keep in mind whilst animating its hard to really pay attention to everything. I often tend to spend so much time focusing on a handful of animation principles that I neglect the others lol. Good luck with your future projects

I'm not really an animator, but I will say that there are aspects here and there that look a bit strange to me, like how the motions are slower compared to the quick, attacking words. Like with "dammit George", usually I'd commend the smoothness of the head turn and the likes, but in this case, I feel a more snappy turn of the head would more effectively drive home the anger/"puncturing" quality of the profanity. Since I'm more than aware that animation is a laborious endeavor, and reanimating everything would probably be too much trouble, perhaps there should be more follow through with the actions accompanying words that sounds like they're being said in CAPS? In example, I really like how his head was married with the rest of his body in the very last "SHELDON!!"

@@; Anyhow, I wish I was an animator to better articulate what feels off about this, but hopefully speaking up at all will get some gears turning for actual animators to fill the blanks! Especially since I feel as though this clip is going somewhere...!

Thanks for the critique, I'll go back into the file and see if I can fix some of those things.
