Well anime is literally just what you call cartoons made in Japan. Then it gets dubbed over when distributed for airing in other countries.
If Avatar's made in Korea, you'd need to find the Korean term. But it's owned by Nickelodeon, which is based in the US. So it's more indicative to just call it what it is- a Western cartoon.
