if I already have a background, from which step should I start?

im stuck in step 2. "Apply following Radial Gradient Overlay effect to this layer." theres no blending options when i right click on the background in cs5.

Just copy background layer or unlock it(remove lock icon, drag it on to the Trash Bin icon in the bottom of layers palette).
